Appeal to Udaipurites for Janata Curfew

At 8 pm on 19th March 2020, Thursday PM Narendra Modi appealed the nation to abide by the ‘Janata Curfew’. Janata Curfew will be observed on 22nd March 2020, Sunday from 7 am to 9 pm. The aim of the curfew is to promote the practice of staying home and avoid going to public places, so as to avoid the transmission of COVID-19.

During the curfew, the citizens have to stay at home for 14 hours and practice quarantine at home with family. “On March 22, from 7 am to 9 pm, all countrymen have to follow the Janata Curfew,” PM Narendra Modi said.

People working in services which are crucial to the citizens such as police, medical health services, media, home delivery, fire-fighting and those who are serving the nation etc. will not need to take part in the Janata Curfew.

Another request made by the PM was that all the people should come out in their balconies or terraces or doorways or windows at 5 pm for five minutes and clap hands or ring the bells in honour of millions of workers who have been directly serving the nation without caring about themselves in the past month via health services, airport services, and many others.

He has also urged people to inform the other 10 people and act as a responsible citizen by spreading awareness about the Janata Curfew and measures to prevent.

We at UdaipurBlog request all the Udaipurites to abide by Janata Curfew for the sake of our own self and family.

Meet a young boy from Nathdwara with 1 M YouTube Subscribers

YouTube has emerged as one of the largest video sharing platforms. And with so many YouTubers getting millions of views and subscribers, they have now become celebrities in their own rights.

But, when we talk about young YouTubers with millions of subscribers, the list is not that long. And if you filter the list as YouTubers from small towns, we’re talking about an even smaller pool of those who have made it to the top.

So, here we have Gagan Sharma, a 20-year-old YouTuber from the small town of Nathdwara, who owns the YouTube channel Cars For You which has serious views with upwards of 1M subscribers.

See what he has to share about his YouTubing experience.

When & why did you start making YouTube videos?

I started the channel Cars For You in April 2016. While searching for some YouTube videos related to my studies, I started wondering why so many people upload videos on YouTube. I did a little research on it realized that YouTube gives money for uploading content. And so, just thought of giving it a try.

What or who inspired you to start your YouTube channel?

I love watching celebrities’ luxury car collection and that’s what Cars For You is all about. Before Cars For You came into existence in 2016, the luxury car collection videos on YouTube only included slideshow format. So, I started making and uploading own content related to celebrities’ luxury car collection and later added the luxury celebrity lifestyle segment which was not there earlier.

Honestly, the fame and money that followed made me stick to it. I feel that almost 99% of people are making YouTube videos for money and there is nothing wrong in it.

How much time do you give to your channel?

I spend around 4-6 hours of a day on my YouTube channel.

How did you promote your channel when you first started?

I simply started with uploading content on YouTube and sharing it with friends on WhatsApp. I was getting around 25 to 30 views in a day initially. The content, because of its newness, became viral giving the channel the required boost.

What did you do to get so many subscribers?

I consistently kept uploading the content related to celebrities’ luxury car collection which was trending. I have been uploading a 1 video every 2 days at the same time since the time I started my channel. And from an article which shares the tips to grow your YouTube channel, I learned that as per the YouTube algorithm, content published around 7:00 PM gets a good response.

What do you think are the key reasons for the success of your YouTube channel?

Uploading unique yet trending content on a consistent basis is the major the primary reason behind this success of Cars For You. You can check the latest trending things on Google Trends.

Also, from my experience, I suggest not to quit too early. Some of my YouTube videos went viral after 9 months of uploading them. Sharing videos on WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter also helped a lot.

How do you keep coming up with new ideas for videos?

I look for trending topics related to my channel on Google Trends. Sometimes I just make the videos own my choice that I love to watch while some of my videos are made on subscribers’ demand.

How do see it as your future/career?

Although I aspire to open my own car garage, I have not thought of YouTubing as a career. As of now, I am doing it for fun. I am studying, I have a page on Facebook and I also own a website. All these things can help me to shape my career as well.

Any tips you would like to give to the new YouTubers?

Keep on creating and sharing content on Youtube which you love. You never know what can get viral. Do not copy other’s ideas. If someone is making viral tech content, you do not necessarily have to make something similar. Make what you love.

Consistently keep on uploading trending content. For the first six months, my YouTube channel was only able to gain 187 odd subscribers. Once my videos started getting viral, I gained subscribers and views to reach this number.

Udaipur girl shares her unpleasant story on eve-teasing: Do you also have yours?

“I am like any other girl from the beautiful city of Udaipur who was until now proud to be living in this tourist city of India. My recent experience at one of the most popular tourist places and every Udaipurites go-to place, has made me rethink on the safety and freedom of being in the city.

I come from a decently modern family which allows me to roam around in the city with my friends. I obey when my folks say “Don’t go out at night” or “Don’t go out alone”.

What they didn’t say was that whether you would go out during the day or be with other people, if you’re a girl, you may still get teased and feel unsafe.

Feeling unsafe was a pretty new experience for me.

The incidents happened recently (15th March to be precise).

I went to Fatehsagar with my friend to have a cup of coffee at one of the famous coffee joints there. It was around 1 PM. I parked my car and stepped out. 3 boys in a white Volkswagen playing loud music hooted at us. I got irritated but ignored it. (We are Indian girls and should not make a big deal out of such thing. Isn’t it?)

We went to the coffee shop, ordered our coffee and were just trying to chill. That’s when I noticed 2-3 uncles in their 40s with 2 young men in their early 30s sitting on a table across us. One of those uncles smiled and started staring at us continuously. He said something to his friends after which all of them started staring at us. We felt uncomfortable and thought the best was to leave from there. (that’s how Indian girls have been raised). While we were going, one of the ‘uncle’ turned his chair to see us.

We moved out of the place and thought of taking a round of FS. Three 3 boys on a bullet, got ahead of us, turned back and gave me that “girls can’t drive” look as if I am doing a sin driving a car. Really??

That’s not all friends! When we thought of ignoring all it all and going back to our place, 2 boys passing by shouted in Mewari language “Kai Problem Hai Kai” (do you have any problem) and followed us to some distance and went away.

All these incidents happened in a span of an hour and that too at the place that I felt like going at any time.

But now I am reluctant to go to FS irrespective of the time of the day. Thanks to the men of the city!”

The above piece was shared with us by one of our followers who wanted us to share her experience with the fellow Udaipurites – both men and women.

There is nothing unique about the story. And while I write this, I feel disgusted!

Why are these so-called minor eve-teasing incidents common not just in Udaipur but around the country? Do we need to ASK the men in the society to stop doing such acts which I am sure are just for “fun” purpose for them and they do not get anything out of it.

We are not generalising the men community. There are great men too. We don’t actually believe it about all men. Men who are not like this should not take offence if you are not the ones harassing women or objectifying them, or otherwise acting like trash.

But there are enough men who do do those things, and the women in Udaipur encounter them every day.

How to react against eve-teasing?

Through this article, we want to make the people of Udaipur aware of the helpline numbers of the female police patrol team.

You can call on these numbers, drop a message or a WhatsApp for support:

  • +91-8764855571
  • +91-8764855572
  • +91-8764855573
  • +91-8764855574
  • +91-8764855575

Save these numbers in your mobile and use them the next time you experience any unpleasant situation on the roads of Udaipur.

Moreover, it should also be a moral duty and responsibility on the passers-by who notice such incident. Report the same to the nearest police station or to Women Helpline.

The process at AAVARAN is totally conventional, that’s why the job is very labour intensive. They develop cloth from various types of cotton and silk (chanderi and kotadoriya). The cotton cloth takes around 15-20 days to develop whereas silk takes around a month because mud-resistant is to be applied on the fabric for 4-5 days and then it’s bleached.

Cloth at AAVARAN goes through following stages to reach to you:

  1. The fabric is imported from the Southern part of India.
  2. The fabric is then washed to remove the impurities of the fabric which are the barrier in the printing procedure.
  3. The fabric is then checked to ensure that there aren’t any weave-mistakes or holes.
  4. The plain cloth is dyed with various dyes, one of them being indigo dye.
  5. The fabric is then printed in different colors and blocks.
  6. The printed cloth is embroidered and stitched upon.
  7. The stitched cloth is then packed in the stock room.
  8. The finished product is consumed by both domestic and international markets.

AAVARAN’s speciality is Dabu print which is traditional hand block printing craftsmanship from vintage Rajasthan. It is made from Dabu which is a mud resist process, and comprises of black soil, gum (gond) and chuna (calcium hydroxide). A mixture of beedan and ground along with mud is used to make a sticky paste. Dabu is applied to the fabric using wooden blocks. At AAVARAN, artisans make use of single and double dabu dexterities for cloth printing.

AAVARAN’s USP is that they manufacture Indigo printed clothes which is Mewar’s ancient expertise. They have 4 pits, each 9ft deep for bleaching the cloth with Indigo. After bleaching/dying the cloth is of greenish shade but turns into blue after exposed oxidization.

AAVARAN also specialize in Lep, as its literal meaning, mud is evenly spread on the cloth and left for drying after which the cloth is bleached and color texture can be seen in different shades on the same piece.

Zari and zardozi are one of the major embroidery craft done at AAVARAN.

The Maharana Pratap Airport of Udaipur has been ranked no. 1 as the cleanest and safest airport in the country in the category of airports having passenger handling capacity of up to 1.5 million. A total of 52 airports in India fall under category III.

The inspection was done by a survey team of the Airport Authority of India (AAI). The team inspected the airports on 32 parameters which majorly covered all the operational aspects of the airports falling in the said category. The parameters included air traffic control, runway and terminal building.

Udaipur Airport has been adjudged the best cleanest airport in the category followed by Vadodara’s Civil Airport Harni which comes second and Vijaywada Airport which ranked the third cleanest airport in the country.

Recently, the airport of Udaipur was also declared  “single-use plastic-free airport terminals” in January 2019.

The airport authority took various steps to eliminate single-use plastic items at passenger terminals, making Udaipur Airport a plastic-free zone.

Plastic items straws, plastic cutlery and plastic plates are banned on the airport. The airport has also switched over to other packaging alternatives and replacements.

AAI has also enhanced its waste management systems and is promoting the use of eco-friendly, sustainable alternatives progressively like the use of bio-degradable garbage bags in bins and installation of the plastic bottle-crushing machine at Udaipur Airport.
