Udaipur is known as the Venice of the east. It is also called the city of lakes and known as the Kashmir of Rajasthan since it is the most beautiful city of Rajasthan.
The city of Dawn, Udaipur is a lovely land around the azure water lake, hemmed in by the lush hills of the Aravallis. A vision in white drenched in romance and beauty, Udaipur is a fascinating blend of sights, sound and experiences and inspiration for the imagination of poets, painters and writers.
The city of lakes or Udaipur was established by Maharana Udai Singhji in 1559 A.D., after he was advised by a hermit to do so.
Udaipur is truly famous for its beautiful lakes and watercourses. Lakes make a perfect backdrop to the romantic setting of Udaipur. Water is a basic necessity of life and lakes full of water give a sense of relief. The Picturesque lakes offering fabulous view of the mountains make Udaipur, a dream destination of every tourist. Since ages, these lakes have been providing water to the city dwellers.
In the evening, boat-ride in these watercourses leaves a soothing impact on the tangled nerves of the people. Lake Pichola, Udai Sagar Lake, Fateh Sagar Lake, Rajsamand Lake and Jaisamand Lake are the five prominent lakes of Udaipur. Apart from these lakes, Doodh Talai, Badi Ka Talab and Kumharia Talab are other lakes that form the part of watercourses in Udaipur.
Udaipur is also famous for its food stalls, cafes and restaurants which makes it more attractive and beautiful city. To understand this there is one aspect which aids in concerning the perspective of how the new food stalls and cafe is entertained in the city.
Udaipur recently welcomed the year 2020 in high-spirits with parties, celebrations, gatherings and fun hovering all over the city. While we are moving into another decade, our lake city is also taking ‘baby-steps’ in getting ahead in the race of ‘smart city’.
With the beginning of the new year, Udaipurites are hoping for some smarter moves in terms of Urban Development. Let’s find out what we can expect from 2020!
Engineering Marvels
The tourist city these days is experiencing a lot of congestion in road traffic movement. With the number of vehicles increasing day by day, the Municipal Corporation and UIT together need to concentrate development of engineering designs for flyovers, underpasses etc. As per the latest news, Pratap Nagar flyover work is going on in full-swing and under-pass work at Delhi gate may begin soon.
Public Transport
Lack of proper public transport facility and non-availability is one of the reasons for increased traffic congestion. People are bound to take their vehicles due to non-availability of public transport thereby increasing the number of vehicles on the road. The Smart City Company is working on a project to run around 35 city buses in the city.
Clean City
The Cleanliness Survey team will be visiting Udaipur in the month of January. The results for the Clean City Survey for India will then be declared in a few months. Udaipurites are hoping to get the top position in the clean city survey. Besides the efforts made by the government bodies for keeping the city clean, it is also the responsibility of the citizens to support the efforts and keep Udaipur clean and green. Let’s see how do we go ahead in this mission in 2020!
Ayad Beautification
The long due Ayad project has been the topic of discussion for a long time now. The project involves keeping the river that goes through the city, clean and full. This project has been recently taken over by the Smart City company. Udaipurites can now expect some quick work on this project which will add to the beauty of the city and will further increase the tourism of Udaipur.
Lake Pichola Cruise
Soon the beautiful lake of Udaipur, Pichola Lake, will have a 150-seater cruise floating over it. The 3-storey ship-like cruise will give tourist more reasons to visit the city. Udaipurites got this news sometime back. Now, they are waiting to see it happen in 2020.
White City
The Municipal Corporation of Udaipur along with the Smart City Company has started the work of painting the walled-city white, giving Udaipur its erstwhile glow. We may expect to see the buildings of the old city in white or off-white colour. It is noteworthy that Udaipur is also called The White City of India. Painting the old town white will also add to the beauty of the city and the tourists will get to see the heritage-look of the city.
Six Lane Projects
The Debari-Kaya six-lane project is in its progressive mode. If completed in time, 2020 will see better management of highway traffic especially for vehicles travelling from Chittor, Pindwara and Ahmedabad side. The Debari Greater Crossing will give a beautiful look of Udaipur before entering the city.
Rail Connectivity
The broad gauge work on Udaipur-Ahmedabad railway track is in full swing and is expected to get completed by the end of 2020. The broad gauge work will connect Udaipur to Ahmedabad and Mumbai and will also open more rail route facility for Madhya Pradesh.
With these, there are many other hopes and expectations that Udaipurites have from their city. We would love to hear what type of development would you like to see in Udaipur in 2020!

Probably not!
Now that’s quite
It is a terrible thing for people coming to the city to get stuck amidst the unmanaged traffic in Udaipur. Plus, the city is not just tourists, we also live here and we are getting stuck here! There should be some way to decongest this!?
Are we really growing? Tourists are flocking to our city, which is, perhaps a good thing as the market would grow, our city’s economy would hike and all sort of blah blah blah. But on the other hand, there is so much congestion on our roads these days, the pollution levels are raising in our green city and the traffic police and all the governing authorities are not even giving it a look.

“ Aravali Ki Wadiyon Mein Janma, Sabhyata Ke Rango Mein Saja,
Itihaas Ke Panno Mein Lipta, Maharajao Ke Panth Mein Bandhaa,
Mewar Ki Rajdhani, Sundarta Se Sanjoya.
Sheher Kuch Anokha Sa, Pyaar Se Hai Piroya.”

Our beautiful Wonderland, Udaipur has turned 463 Years old. And, no wonder it’s the time of happiness and celebration for every native as our city has not only been through a lot of phases in all these years but it has also gained a lot of popularity in many sense.
When it comes to culture, heritage, traditions, and modernization, Udaipur has always shown its significance amongst everyone. Justifying its name meaning ‘Rise’, our city has always been open for all type of revolution.
And, on this special occasion, we would like to share a glimpse of information that probably everyone should know when it’s about Lake City:
History Pick-up
Founded in 1559, by Maharana Udai Singh II, Udaipur was established as the new capital of the Mewar Kingdom. And, behind the settlement of Udaipur, it was a sudden meet of Maharana Udai Singh with a hermit while hunting in the foothills of the Aravali Range. Their hermit blessed him and guided him to build a palace on the spot, assuring him it would be protected. Then, Udai Singh II consequently acknowledged a residence on the site. In 1567, Mughal emperor Akbar laid siege to the venerated fort of Chittor. At that time, to protect Udaipur from external attacks, Maharana Udai Singh built a six-kilometer long city wall, with seven gates, namely Surajpole, Udiapole, Chandpole, Hathipole, and so on. In today’s time, the area within these walls is known as the old city or walled city. And, being in the mountainous region, Udaipur always remained safe from Mughal influence despite extreme pressure.
Regarding other historical aspects, many other changes were seen before independence as well. As when it’s a catch of tourism, many foreign traders and personalities like Edward, Prince of Wales (1921), Lord Minto, Viceroy of India (1909), and several others visited Udaipur.
Udaipur’s Famous Catches
Known for its scenic locations, Udaipur is amongst the popular travel destinations to witness growing tourism each and every day. Astounding people through its cityscapes, Udaipur houses many beautiful places to look for like Lakes (Fateh Sagar, Udai Sagar, Swaroop Sagar, etc.), Palaces (City Palace, Monsoon Palace, etc.), Temples (Jagdish Mandir, Sahastra Bahu Temple, Eklingji, etc.), and much more.
In part of an economy, our city has a diversified base that includes Handicrafts Markets, Tourism, Metal & mineral industries, Agriculture and Retail sources.
In the scene of culture, our city has kept a balance between preserving the rituals and traditions of the past while influencing modern lifestyle and advancements. Dance forms like Kalbelia, Ghoomar, Kachchhi Godi, Bhavai, etc. are still performed in tribal communities.
And, when it comes to art, miniature paintings are amongst the most famous developed here. To display the forms of Rajasthani tradition, some local festivals like Gangaur, Hariyali Amavasya, Jagannath Rath Yatra, etc. are celebrated enthusiastically.
And, when it’s a part of entertainment and events, Udaipur is a city that is often recognised by many Indian and Foreign nationals for Royal Destination Weddings, Movie Shoots, Lake Festival, World Music Festival, etc.
Apart from all, it also justifies education by serving IIMU (Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur), CTAE (College of Technology and Engineering), and several other colleges and private universities.
Lastly, we can say, our Udaipur is a diamond, and we are proud of our city that has been an incredible land in its own.
Cheers to our mains!! Cheers to all of us…. WE LOVE UDAIPUR 🙂
Rajasthan is a beautiful blend of eclectic cultures. Several fests are organized to celebrate the love for the State in the City of Lakes. This Valentine’s season Udaipur showed its love and pride towards Rajasthani Culture at The Celebration Mall Udaipur in Mharo Rajasthan. The Mall celebrated the love for the art forms of Rajasthan and also let the people of Udaipur enjoy the fiesta with them.
The Mall was decorated in Rajasthani theme with a lot of activities like puppet shows, Pottery, Clay Art, Camel ride, Photo Zone and Rajasthani Handicraft stalls. The puppet show was an attraction for the children; they also enjoyed the pottery and clay art. People were not even apprehensive in getting their hands dirty!! Many children, as well as adults, took active participation in making pots and learning pottery! The clay art also gathered much acclamation.
The photo-zone took all the zealous selfie-takers to its side. With several props, people of Udaipur loved clicking and making their day memorable. Camel rides were outside the mall, the periphery was marked by enthusiasm as it was the first time there was a camel ride outside of the mall which attracted a lot of people even foreign tourists. The camel ride was a fun part of the entire event.
Udaipur is a tourist hub and people from all over the globe come to explore the Venice of the East! For all those beautiful people a stall dedicated to the Rajasthani Handicraft was put up. It did get all the appreciation and footfall. The people loved the handicrafts and were fascinated by the handmade stuff.
The jewelry section took over the ladies! Beautiful Rajasthani tribal jewelry was put forth and the ladies loved it. The festival Mharo Rajasthan started on 4th of February and would go on until 19th of February. Apart from the above, Mehndi art too lured the public.
