The Art of Living Guru Poornima celebrations took place in Udaipur. Many people gathered for a wonderful week of music and meditation, silence and celebration, fun and food, dance of devotion and much more. July 3 was the day of Guru Poornima, a day that holds special significance for the spiritual seeker to pay tribute to the teachers.
Hindus attach paramount importance to the Spiritual Gurus. Gurus are often equated with God and always regarded as a link between the individual and the immortal. Just as the moon shines by reflecting the light of the sun, and glorifies it, all disciples can dazzle like the moon by gaining from their Gurus. ‘Guru’ in India, holds a supreme significance. Guru is a person with revered personality, who by his teachings enlightens us. He introduces us to the vast world of knowledge and shuns our ignorance.
His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on the significance of Guru – Poornima
“Among the 12-13 full moons in a year the vaishakha full moon is dedicated to Buddha (his birth and enlightenment), jyeshtha full moon to mother earth and the aashadha full moon is dedicated to the memory of masters. This is Guru-Poornima.”
A prominent Art of Living teacher, Mr. Anand Desai mentored by His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankarji, is in Udaipur for few days for the Sahaj Samadhi Meditation course. It is pleasure of the people of Udaipur that they are getting chance to learn from a such a dynamic teacher who lives his knowledge.
He said, “Meditation is relaxing and reposing in that atom. So, think of all the things that you could be grateful for, and ask what you want. And bless everybody. We receive, but not just receiving is enough, we should give and bless those who are in need. ”
Hundreds of people gathered to attend the Guru Poornima Satsang by Anand Bhaiya at the Gujrati Dharamshala in Sector 11. Anand Bhaiya, alongwith the members of Art of Living mesmerized the audience with Bhajans like Satchidananda Nanda Guru Om , Jay Jaya Radha Ramana, Krishna Govind Gopala.
On the occasion of Guru Poornima, Art of Living, Udaipur launched a website devoted to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Ji. – http://jaigurudev.me/

Peace and happiness, which we feverishly seek in the world are already present within us, covered by the clouds of stress and strain. These clouds are lifted through “Sahaj Samadhi Meditation”, a gift of transcendental Meditation from ‘Sri Sri’.
Sahaj Samadhi Meditation is a natural, effortless system of meditation. Sahaj is a Sanskrit word that means natural or effortless. Samadhi is a deep, blissful, meditative state.
Everyone has experienced a meditative state in moments of deep joy, or when completely engrossed in an activity, when just for a moment the mind becomes so light and at ease. While we have such moments, we are unable to repeat them at will. The Sahaj Samadhi course teaches you how. This meditation technique almost instantly alleviates the practitioner from stress-related problems, deeply relaxes the mind and rejuvenates the system.
Sahaj means natural & Samadhi means enlightenment without effort. We connect to our inner self and Experience profound silence and inner bliss.
“Meditating is the delicate art of doing nothing – letting go of everything and being who you are.”
– Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Imagine yourself standing outside a door that says OPERATION THEATRE with a red bulb glowing under that board. You are restlessly pacing in the corridor with drops of sweat on your forehead as your (God forbade) mother or father, brother or sister or your dearest friend lies on the operation table under the eyes of a team of doctors. A nurse emerges from the door and asks you to arrange for a unit of blood urgently as their blood bank is short of that particular blood group. That very moment you will realize the value of just 1 unit of blood.
I remember one advertisement in which a sweet little girl says ‘thank you’ to a group of youngsters sitting in a cafeteria. When asked for what she was thanking them, she replied that she is suffering from some disease in which she needs weekly blood transfusions. She doesn’t know whose blood renews her life every week, so she keeps on thanking every youngster she meets. This shook the heart of one boy who has never donated blood in his life and he decides to donate his blood for people who are in need of it.
If these two instances could not move your legs towards a blood bank, then make a note that God has forgot to put a heart in the left side of your chest.
Blood – it’s the basic fluid in your body that supplies oxygen and nutrients to every cell of your body and takes waste products of metabolism away from it. It neither can be replaced by any other fluid nor can be developed in vitro (outside the body). The need for donating blood and establishing more blood banks increases in the present era as statistics record an increase in the number of accidents as well as in the incidence of diseases such as Thalassemia for which regular blood transfusions is the only way of increasing life expectancy of the patient.
If you are thinking that donating a unit of blood will make you ill or you yourself will fall short of blood then let me tell you that even a lady normally loses some milliliters of blood every month during her menstrual period and there is not a single case where a lady died due to normal menstrual blood loss. Moreover, you all must have read at some time or other that a normal life span of RBCs (Red Blood Cell; cells that form a major part of your blood) has a life span of 120 days, that is, your blood keeps on getting renewed in every 120 days. So even if you donate few milliliters out of your 4.7 – 5.5 L of blood, your body will easily compensate the loss. If you don’t believe me, go ask any doctor around for more guidance.
Its Blood Donation day today; a perfect day to make a decision that we will be donating our blood at regular intervals. You never know whose valuable life your blood might be saving. So it’s in your hands whether to make your 350 ml of blood a mere waste or to make it priceless. Start donating and start saving lives…!!!
Today, one of the most burning issues of concern is how to tackle global warming and raise global awareness of the need in order to take positive environmental action. 5th June is few click ticks aways to over, and very few knew that United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) took an initiative back in 1973 to celebrate 5th June as World Environment Day every year. Yes, it was an environment day today. Did we see any rallies? Mass movements? Public involvements? More awareness? NO! There have been peaceful rallies but they have just not been able to mark enough agitation in the minds of residents of the city. There may have been speeches, and lectures by eminent speakers at priority level seminars and conferences, but they too haven’t just been absorbed into the general public.
I know to discuss the topics like Global Warming, Environment and all doesn’t interest many but seeing the present state and somewhat predicting the future, I think these are the topics which are most required to be discussed as discussions lead to solutions.
Practically Speaking, what we need today is basically a “Green Economy”. A Green Economy as the books say is one whose growth in income and employment is driven by enterprises which intend to reduce carbon emissions and pollution, enhance energy and resource efficiency and prevent the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services which is exactly what saving our environment really means. Sustainable development should be the approach for our progress, which will obviously leave our future generations some actual inheritance from the ecosystem.
As an Udaipurite where I call my city as City of Lakes it is somewhat obvious that my city would be an epitome of clean and green India. But is it really what the truth is?? Well, the cow dung on our roads, garbage in Fateh Sagar and Pichola, air and noise pollution near busy areas of Bapu Bazar and Shaktinagar, the dump I see at town hall and Sukhadia Circle, etc really make have a second thought.
But in my view these all views can be solved with coordinated efforts of all the Udaipies to make our Udaipur more beautiful and more attractive as for cow dung removal there can be a domestic staff appointed, for garbage and dumps there are “USE ME” boxes already installed, and regarding pollution the battery vehicles and use of one vehicle for two can be a solution. So, Udaipies let us make our city the real HEAVEN.
As students, there are some facts from which we all are familiar like one-third of our Earth’s land mass is under forest cover which makes our planet alive with possibilities. They play a key role in our battle against climate change by releasing oxygen into the atmosphere while storing carbon dioxide. So, is it not necessary for us to prevent and protect our savior?
World Environment Day includes thousands of activities which are organized worldwide with beach clean-ups, concerts, exhibitions, film festivals, community events and much more. This Year’s Global host, India- a country of wide biodiversity having their theme as “Many Species, One Planet, One Future.” India’s Biodiversity was celebrated with huge strides on environmental protection with three days of keynote event covering street rallies, bicycle parades, green concerts, essays and poster competitions in schools, tree planting as well as recycling and clean-up campaigns.
However, this is what is happening at national and international level but every existing human on this earth should make efforts and take initiative in protecting our environment at personal level too by using eco-friendly products such as eco-friendly light bulbs and shopping bags and should also spread awareness for the seriousness of the issue in their surroundings which is indulging in danger at an alarming rate.
In the end, in order to ensure all nations and peoples’ to enjoy a safer and more prosperous future lets start the process of Greening our Blue earth today.
Saturday…5th may… Fateh school.. A night that was never meant to be forgotten for Udaipur. Thousands and many with faith in their hearts and hope in their eyes flowed together in the place of lord – Khatu Shyam Ji. “The Lord of Kalyug” was the only name that was chanted all around. If faith is meant to be in the hearts so was in the eyes too of all the thousands gathered around on this occasion.
Beautiful hymns in different beautiful voices was to be heard all around at the place which was perfectly guided by “Nandu Bhaiya” the man of beautiful voice who came right away from from Ahemdabad to make this evening a memorable one. Thousands of devotees were to be seen all around who altogether were purely dipped in the river of devotion spreading their fragrance all around. The deity was beautifully decorated with different lights and flowers making every eye eager to have a glance of this incredible view. The task of Shyam Bhakt Mandal Trust was truly praiseworthy and adorable for making an evening that was purely in the feet of lord.
Well, It is truly said in the “eyes and place” of God – All are one. So was our mayor Rajni Dangi, who along with all the other devotees played an equal role in all the processions.
“If the end of all is one,why not make our’s a bit different.” This was what every eye and soul present their was speaking, seeking the blessings of the almighty “Khatu Shyam Ji” I hereby share my love and pay regards to one and all who were present their with their enormous Devotion, Love and Faith and never put a step back in proving themselves.
“May God Bless All” as we are “By him…For him”
Since aeons, theatre has always been a strong medium of entertaining people while confronting them with reality. And reality can sometimes leave you amidst a cyclone of thoughts. One such burning truth was raised in the play “Court Martial” which was beautifully written by Swadesh Deepak and executed by a team of young and talented artists under the able direction of Shivraj Sonwal. Occasion was of World Theatre Day and the stage was of Sukhadia Rangmanch at Town Hall. With a very noble cause of ailing a very senior theatre artist Mr. Rizwan Zahir Usman, who is suffering from a severe kidney disease, this play was dedicated to him who had been a source of inspiration for many.
The play takes you to an army court where a case has been presented for trial. Accused is Jawan Ramchandar who has been accused of killing one officer and grievously hurting the other. The court is presided by Colonel Sooraj Singh, a brave army personnel who has confronted death many a times in battle field. The trial at the court puts him in a confusing situation where he has to decide between moral judgment and legal judgment. At the end, despite of getting death sentence, the accused wins over the victim.
The play forces us to put a question on the society in which we live; a society that proudly tags itself as ‘modern’. But a bitter truth is that some narrow-minded people form a part of it or rather I should say the most respected part of this society. These so-called ‘High Class People’ forcefully take away the pride and esteem of people merely on the basis of caste. Yes, crimes were committed, are committed and will continue to be committed by them against low caste people and against the whole society and humanity when tried at a larger scale. And the ‘point to be noted’ is that this prevails even in The Indian Army which does not hold any system of reservation at any of its ranks and positions. Sounds shocking but true!!
“Writers are born not made”. It is indeed rightly said. Usman sir, a man who dedicated his whole life writing, acting, directing plays and entertaining people. Mr. Rizwan Zaheer Usman a gem of the city of lakes who used to act as an ailing man days before is today very ill in real life.
He has been a source of inspiration of many young ignited minds of the lakecity is suffering from a serious kidney disease and undergoes Dialysis.Though this man is being felicitated and praised for his work and remarkable achievements from the government as well renowned societies but a harder part is that he is under financial crisis and it is hard for him to spend 4000 bucks every week to undergo Dialysis. He briefs that “I want to live more and complete an incomplete story of mine”. Being a son of businessman he chose his way and served the theatre society for years.
The Karmashram, Naadbrahma, The Manager and Aashray are organizing a theatre event “Court Martial” at Sukhadia Rangmanch and the funds which they will receive will be contributed for Usman Sir’s treatment.
He entertained people for some good amount of his lifetime and today he needs an eye of every common man to fight against his fatal kidney disease. Though many of us don’t know him personally but humanity in our souls wont resist helping this personality.
We the Udaipurblog Family appeal to everyone to contribute generously …….. 🙂
