The Traditional concept of Tourism is well known by the people, which includes: Luxurious Hotels, Special places to Visit. Specially in a country like India the list of such places is never ending. We have quite a long list of such places – starting from the Taj Mahal, Eastern Coastal Line, The Breathtaking beauty of Himalayas, the western deserts etc. But that period is long gone when tourists used to visit such places merely to Eat, Drink & Merrymaking, this modern period calls for improvisation.
Many tourists want to learn & explore more about the people they meet & the places they visit. This indicates that the present day tourism is more ‘Knowledge Oriented‘ or ‘Cultural Tourism‘. This is where we have an advantage over the others, Udaipur is blessed with all the characteristics which will undoubtedly make us a leader in the present world of Tourism.
We have so much to offer to the people – almost every place, palace and lakes has a story associated with it, and the Modern Tourism demands exploration and learning, this is where we take the lead. Secondly, the Rich Heritage and culture adds to the increased interaction between tourists and local people. The tourists get a glimpse of the traditional life-style and culture and this is what matters. These small interactions, experiences are preserved by the tourists and these small things leave a impression upon the tourists which actually shapes the image of any place.
Ways to Promote Tourism
Multimedia presentations can be made available in the top tourist spots. These MM presentations would include topics like music, culture, history, biodiversity etc.
A Special emphasis to highlight the Cultural Tourism and Knowledge Based Tourism should be made in order to support them.

Rajasthan and Punjab are two very distinctive states of our country. While they are very different, there are various similarities as well. In this aspect, the governments of the respective states intend to promote each other’s cultures.
Punjab’s infotech chairman Harpreet Sandhu visited the city of lakes on February 9th. With a view to giving an insight on Punjab’s rich heritage, he gifted the Collector his book, “Sadda Sohna Punjab”.
He was also of the view that Rajasthan and Punjab share different yet very similar cultures. Both the states have people who are deeply rooted. The royalty of Rajasthan and the high-spirited lifestyle of Punjab are both exciting to know.
With the idea of cultural exchange for both the states, locals would get the opportunity to explore different destinations of the West and North. Both, Rajasthan and Punjab, take pride in boasting about their food, folk arts, and lifestyle.
Despite the various distinctive things, there are points of similarities as well. The two cultures are symbolic of happiness and joy. The Rajasthani attire for women is ghagra, choli, and odhni. And for the women of Punjab, is a salwar kameez.
And surprisingly, both attires are equally fancied by the locals.
Travel and tourism is one of the largest industries in the world. Leveraging them for the economic benefit of Rajasthan and Punjab is a strategic and advantageous decision. It will also result in the benefit of Udaipur’s tourism.
This scheme of promoting each other’s cultures brings forward an opportunity for economic development as well. The tourist destinations of the states have a great capacity to attract tourists.
Tourism spend and economic development go hand-in-hand. And with the increased tourism across the two places, there are better chances of monumental development. When travellers from Punjab come to Rajasthan, there are chances of financial betterment for our state.
This unique idea of the respective state governments can uplift the scenario of voyaging. People from Rajasthan will get to know about the culture of Punjab and vice versa. And also, they would get to experience the beauty of Punjab’s “INDIA BEGINS HERE” tagline.
When everything did stop due to a virus that turned our lives upside down, it was not easy to stand still as an economy. Especially, when the concept of lockdown was introduced to us; that was a for sure hit!
Well, like every other thing, Udaipur that is majorly dependent on the tourism sector for its economic developments, did hit rock-bottom. Lockdown made us suffer all. But as much as the year 2021 was filled with bad news, the good news arrived this year soon after the lockdown. Tourism took a major surge in the city of lakes and in such a way that a decade of Udaipur’s tourism did not witness such hiked amount of tourists.
According to the reposts of the Regional Tourism Office, Udaipur showed a near 1 million domestic tourists visiting Udaipur in 2021, with 67% of the total being recorded in the last 5 months of 2021. The city of lakes recorded nearly 7 lakh tourists between August & December.
Also, in 2021, from August, September, October, November till December, the city sited maximum tourist hits in approximately last one decade. August recorded 100,580 tourists; September 86,240; October 115,450; November 160,000 and in December the number was 180,000.
As we are commencing 2022, how can we foresee the ups and downs of 2021? But, seeing the world from the glass half full side, the domestic tourism boom in 2021 actually recovered many losses that occurred due to lockdown. Though domestic tourism post-pandemic took a spur, nothing much was received from international tourism.
Well, what we can do is to keep our fingers crossed and take major steps in order to avoid the onset of the third wave, when the new corona variant, omicron is on the go. Counting on good fortune and great economic developments ahead for the tourist’s hub, Udaipur.
When over six lakh readers from across the world submitted ratings and comments for selecting their favourite travel destinations and brands, Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur got the third position in the list of top 10 best hotels in the World.
The global luxury and lifestyle magazine, Condé Nast Traveler, has combined the annual readers’ surveys in the U.S. and the U.K. into one Global Readers’ Choice Awards List.
The palatial hotel, undoubtedly, deserves every bit of this position with its awe-inspiring architecture and hospitality. The guests are treated like royals from the very first moment they enter into the property. The location of the hotel further adds to its charisma giving a feeling of a walk into the history and an experience of unique service that brings the “Tajness” to life.
This all, of course, comes with a price. One night stay at this luxurious property of Udaipur can cost somewhere between INR 80,000 to 11 lacs, depending on the business season.
However, for general people, watching this beauty during the boat ride in Lake Pichola is another experience especially during evening and night, when the property is lit with mesmerizing lights.
The hotel rose to another level of fame after the famous James Bond movie, Octopussy, was shot here in 1984. Post that, many Bollywood movies made The Taj Lake Palace their shooting location.
Udaipur being the most preferred tourist destination particularly in the monsoon season is attracting large number of people all around the world. Not only the tourists but locals also frequently visit lakes and other beautiful spots in large numbers during monsoons. However, the biggest issue is that, there are no restrictions on taking pictures and selfies on these sites, which sometimes becomes a reason of unwanted accidents.
Observing the picturesque beauty of lakes, valleys and other such picnic spots, people generally forget to notice danger zones and blind spots which has ended lives of many people in the past. Also, the increasing craze of photography and selfies is the major reason behind such unacceptable accidents.
In a meeting held in the month of March, between Tourism Development board and UIT & Nagar Nigam, it was decided to place warning boards near lakes, hilly regions and tourist places. However, till date no action has been taken in this regard. Observing the increasing number of selfie-deaths, a meeting by tourism department will be held on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. to take more stringent actions.
Administration and people must take collective action to prevent such mishaps in future. Authorities must appoint guards at highly risky areas, together with placing warning signs . Moreover, people must show responsive attitude while visiting such places.
598 mtrs above the sea level and spanning over a stretch of only 37 sq km, a small beautiful town in the south of the largest state of India, lies a place, which is famous for its Royal Rajput-era palaces and scenic locations, which is home to exquisite valley views, tranquil lakes and some of world’s most influential & majestic architectures, a place which is on the bucket list of so many tourists, a place where many plan their dream destination weddings, a place that carries a wide history and culture, with it, Yes it is none other than, Udaipur, the city where my heart lies. Many of us call it ‘the City of Lakes, Venice of the East, and the Kashmir of Rajasthan.
It is one of the favorite travelling destination among the globetrotters and hence it was nominated as the No 1 City in Asia in 2018. This year Udaipur ranked 6th in Asia and 10th in the ‘World’s Best Awards’ for best cities of the world by renowned travel magazine travel and leisure. Not only this, the Leela Palace Udaipur ranked the no 1 hotel among World’s 100 best resorts, together with 38th place held by Taj Lake Palace while Oberoi Udaivilas at 49th, by the readers of the same T+L magazine. The magazine says that “a breathtaking view of Lake Pichola is just one reason, Travel + Leisure readers gave for choosing this Udaipur’s hotel as their favorite”.
From the ornate palaces and narrow winding streets, to the boutique jewelry stores and bustling markets, is what made travelers all around the earth to nominate it as the best travelling destinations. The City of Lakes hold so much treasures which could only be explored by renting a rowboat and sailing through the lakes or escaping into the narrow old city lanes which demonstrate the true Mewari culture.
Besides this, the cinematic history of the luxurious Taj Lake Palace and the Royal City Palace, are cherry on pie, which this city boasts of. Taj Lake Palace has also been voted as one of the Top 10 Asia resort hotels.
Thank you world and Udaipur folks that helped it mark its presence among 4,416 cities of the world.
Even after 9 months in the Kalangan centre prepared by the State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT), the cultural evening and short films for tourists have not been started.
On the pattern of heritage in Bagore Haveli, the evening full of cultural events were supposed to happen daily. A short film on the history of Saheliyon-ki-Bari was prepared to show in a specially constructed room, but the indigenous and foreign tourists visiting here are not able to see it at this time. On July 28, 2018, the former Home Minister Gulabchand Kataria inaugurated the Kalangan Center. In it, there were 44 works of famous artists of contemporary art including Mewar’s famous traditional miniature painting style, Nathdwara, Kawad Photo category etc. Apart from this, the panels of the historic theme of Mewar, which are built in Herbal Gardens of Forest Medicinal Plants, Bird Vihar are located here.
More than two thousand domestic and foreign tourists visit Saheliyon-ki-Bari, according to which the proposed rooms for short films are facing a shortfall, which is going to shift above. Second, in the evening selection of a qualified institution for cultural events cannot be held. There will be a separate ticket for entry, but how much it will look, it can not be decided by the administration. Here, additional security professionals are required for deployment, but SCERT lacks a budget to keep security personnel on contract. Time for completion of this project is indefinite hence, the visitors have to wait for a new addition to Udaipur itinerary.
