Every year, National Nutrition Week introduces several programs to target a specific issue. The topic for the prior year was “Feeding Smart, Right From Start”. This year’s topic will be focused on “Celebrating the World of Flavors.”

The History And Importance Of National Nutrition Week 2022

In 1975, the American Dietetic Association (ADA), presently known as the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, created National Nutrition Week. India began celebrating National Nutrition Week in 1982. During this week, the centre plans several initiatives to spread knowledge about the value of nutrition and how a healthy diet can improve overall health.

In this article, we have compiled some professional diet tips to help you meet your body’s fundamental nutritional demands in order to kick off National Nutrition Week.

Diet Tips for Optimum Nutrition

National Nutrition Week

1.) Protein Rich Diet

According to expert nutritionists, 10 to 35% of the daily calorie requirements should come from protein. Indian men, on average, weigh 60 kg, while women, on average, weigh 55 kg, and both require 60 grams of protein. Hence, it is essential to consume eggs, beans, dairy, nuts, seeds, and lentils due to their high protein content.

2.) Healthy Carbohydrates

Most medical experts recommend eating starchy fruits, starchy roots like potatoes and sweet potatoes, and cereals like rice, maize, millet, wheat, and barley at least once a day to give your body energy and essential vitamins and minerals.

3.) Water

Water not only quenches thirst but also supports the majority of body processes. Along with other healthy liquids like coconut water, lemonade, and fruit juice, it is highly recommended to drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water daily. You can also add flavour to your drinking water with herbs and spices like cumin seeds, coriander seeds, basil leaves, and mint leaves to get that additional nutritional benefit.

4.) Fresh Fruits and Veggies

National Nutrition Week

Fruits and vegetables not only provide us with fibre, vitamins, and minerals, but they also provide immunity-boosting antioxidants and flavonoids that keep us healthy.

Besides a protein and carbohydrate-rich diet, we also need to incorporate some immunity-boosting foods to build our natural immunity. Mentioned herewith are the top 10 ingredients that you must add to your diet to boost your immunity.

Top 10 Immunity Boosting Food Items

National Nutrition Week

1.) Ginger

This miracle herb calms down the body’s agitated Vata (air component), which may be a common concern during the rainy season. It enhances the body’s capacity for digestion, which keeps you energized. Additionally, ginger enhances the absorption and delivery of nutrients to the body’s tissues, which is essential for guarding against colds and the flu.

2.) Garlic

Another superfood from the Indian kitchen is garlic. Garlic contains antioxidant characteristics that help to improve your body’s natural immunity and speed up metabolism. The most flavorful way to eat it is to include it in regular dals and curries. Spice up soups and sauces with garlic.

3.) Mint Leaves

Although it is normally advised to avoid eating greens during the monsoon, take mint as an exception. Try incorporating mint into warm salads, room-temperature lemonades, and warming drinks since it is a natural coolant. It works as a natural decongestant to fight the flu and cold.

4.) Moong Beans

This protein-laden item is prevalent throughout the year. Your health will benefit from the proteins, vitamins, and minerals it contains, which all work to strengthen immunity, particularly during the monsoon season. It will help you attain a balanced temperament by calming the air and fire elements in your body. The best way to eat it during this season is in the form of a pancake or soup with moong as the base. Moong beans should not be consumed uncooked.

5.) Honey

Honey turns out to be a blessing for people with poor digestion. It is a quickly digestible carbohydrate that provides instant energy. Many individuals may experience stomach problems during the monsoon. However, honey can aid in recovering from all types of flues throughout the monsoon in a smooth way. To reap its advantages, consume one teaspoon of honey with two teaspoons of lemon juice and one glass of lukewarm water first thing in the morning.

6.) Jowar

Jowar is a simple carbohydrate that is high in iron, fibre, and vitamin B3, all of which are necessary for maintaining a healthy metabolism, immune system, and skin. During these cold months, you need food items that are naturally warming. You can use jowar to make porridge or Rotis.

7.) Bottle Gourd

This native Indian component is simple to digest. As a result of its high alkaline content, it helps to maintain the function of your digestive system. Having a strong stomach is extremely advantageous during the monsoon. There are a variety of ways to prepare gourds, including making poached koftas, using them in soups, using them in parathas, or simply eating them as a plain subji with chapatis.

8.) Turmeric

There is no better way to improve immunity than with turmeric. You need turmeric to ward off colds, flu, coughs, and sore throats. Gargle occasionally with salt water and turmeric. The two best uses for it are in regular cooking and in making green tea.

9.) Rock Salt

You must incorporate rock salt into your cooking during the monsoon season since it raises the pitta (fire) element in your body, which enhances digestion, which is often poor during rainy weather.

10.) Bitter Gourd

Even though it doesn’t taste particularly good, it offers a plethora of advantages. It contains a lot of vitamin C, which helps to strengthen immunity and has potent antiviral capabilities to improve one’s health.

What is Food Safety and Why Is It Important?

Food is one of the most basic needs for the survival of humans. The nutrients we obtain from food give us the energy and nourishment we need to perform our everyday activities. Moreover, food also has a cultural significance and helps define a community’s identity. Food provides you with a variety of flavorful experiences. Hence, food safety is the responsibility of all participants in the food supply chain. You have an important role in food safety whether you are a food supplier, a food business owner, a manufacturer, or a customer.

Hence, in addition to enjoyment, everyone should have the right to food safety. This World Food Safety Day let us understand what exactly is Food Safety and why it is important.

What is Food Safety?

Food safety means how food is handled, prepared, and stored so as to minimize the danger of people getting sick from contaminated food.

Food safety is a worldwide issue that affects many aspects of daily life.

Food safety aims at preventing food from being contaminated. Food safety can be done in a variety of ways, including:

  • Cleaning and sanitizing all surfaces, equipment, and utensils properly.
  • Maintaining a high degree of personal hygiene, particularly when it comes to washing hands.
  • Considering temperature, atmosphere, and utensils while storing, cooling, and heating food.
  • Applying a proper pest control system.
  • Having a proper understanding of food allergies, food poisoning, and food intolerance.

Why is Food Safety Important?

According to recent World Health Organization estimates, at least 600 million individuals across the globe get infected with foodborne diseases as a result of consuming contaminated food. Every year, at least 420,000 of these people lose their lives. As a result, economic development gets hampered and results in reduced production and increased medical costs.

Most of the food safety concerns are caused by pathogenic microorganisms such as bacteria, which cause food poisoning. They can stimulate watery diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach ache, and even paralyzing infections and chronic disorders, which can range from moderate to deadly. Food safety concerns have the potential to be fatal for both food industry owners and customers.

Foods that are simple to prepare and eat might quickly get contaminated. Perishable foods including eggs, poultry, fresh fruits, raw meat or deli meats, deli seafood salads, undercooked seafood, ground beef, raw sprouts, and raw milk products are just a few examples of foods that can cause common diseases. If preventative steps are not taken, these ingredients may get contaminated by intestinal pathogens such as bacteria, resulting in illness. Mentioned herewith are some of the important reasons why food safety is important:

importance of food safety

1.) Avoid Food Poisoning

One of the most important objectives of food safety is to protect the consumers from foodborne infections or illnesses caused by consuming contaminated food. As a result of poor food safety, foodborne infections are a huge danger to food industries and harm people all over the world. However, you can ensure that the food you serve is safe and that the risk of infection is low by following correct food safety procedures.

2.) Reduce Food Wastage

Food items that are found to be contaminated to eat must be discarded. A food firm must reduce waste by employing adequate food safety standards. Food safety management systems are also designed to detect and prevent food damage even before they reach the manufacturing house, which might result in additional waste if processed further.

3.) Better Lifestyle

Consumer productivity is impacted by any foodborne illness. Although consumers will be able to operate normally once infected, in severe situations, they may require hospitalization. These incidences cause major disruptions in daily routines. However, they can be avoided by adopting correct food safety procedures in both the food production units as well as at home.

4.) Environment-friendly Food Production techniques

Food production techniques that safeguard both the customer and the environment are part of good food safety measures. Food safety regulation regulates practices such as minimizing synthetic fertilizers that can leak into food. Furthermore, food safety measures involve the provision of safe drinking water as well as the reduction of air, sewage, and other environmental contaminants that have a significant impact on the ecosystem.

5.) Globalization of Safe Food

All food safety regulations are intended to protect customers from foodborne illnesses. Following these food safety standards ensures that your products are as competitive as possible, particularly in the fast-paced globalization of the food sector. Effective food safety management systems help in developing a bigger distribution channel for your food business.

In the food safety concept, each member of the food supply chain has a duty to perform. In the process, all jobs are critical and useful. Your function cannot be replaced, whether you are a food company owner, a government employee, or a customer. Everyone is responsible for food safety. Moreover, by following proper food safety and hygiene measures, the food items are protected from contamination. It ensures that the food produced by a food company is safe for people to eat.

Best Places To Have Decent Meals In Udaipur

When you are a first time traveler in a particular destination, you are not sure where to have a meal which is satisfying. Here I recommend 4 places which offer delicious food in great ambience and pleasing service. Most important, they are value for money and one does not regret spending on the meal.

399-400 Gopal Bhawan, Kalaji Goraji Marg, Near Vinayak Hotel, Udaipur

Viraasat as the name suggests is a restaurant where yu are served Traditional Rajasthani food in very pleasing ambience. They have seating in covered area as well as in the garden so ideal for soaking in the winter sun and enjoying the evenings by the seegris.

The menu is extensive with soups, salads and authentic Mewari food. I strongly recommend their thali which is delicious and value for money. They have Tandoor operational all the time and that’s a big plus point as you can enjoy Tandoori chapattis and other preparations.  The locals love Viraasat’s  Laal Maas, Bati, Choorma Ladoo and a lot more.

Very well maintained and operated professionally by the polite owners themselves.

The Little Prince Restaurant

Chandpole, Near Walking Bridge, Hanuman Ghat Area, Udaipur

Tucked nicely close to the walking bridge, this simple restaurant has very chilled out vibes. There is usually a team of two boys who look into your order, disappear in the kitchen and come up with a very well presented dish you ordered. You will be surprised to see an offbeat menu here with authentic Israeli and Korean dishes besides the popular Continental and Indian preparations. We tried Falafel Lifafa, Israeli Platter, Thupka and Momos – all were excellent in taste and presentation with mouth watering accompaniment dips and sauces.

And yes, ask for your favourite smoothie or Coffee with  French fries and just soak in the calm environs for here is the peaceful side of the city right besides lake Pichola.

With warm service, decent pricing, this place is worth a visit.

Millets Of  Mewar

Sajjangarh Monsoon Palace, 25, Sajjan vihar, near biological park, Udaipur

Known to be India’s 6th healthiest restaurant, the owners truly deserve a pat on the back for presenting food which is healthy, nutritious and uses forgotten Indian grains and millets. Their research to recreate special vegetarian recipes has been successful as the food is delicious. The menu is extensive and every dish is worth trying. Our vote goes for Millets Aloo Tikki and Daal Bati Churma thali which are absolutely outstanding.

The service is efficient and ambience very pleasing. They have vegan and gluten free options too. A must visit for offbeat, healthy food.

Rang Sagar, Udaipur

If you are seeking a place for a special occasion, then a meal at this restaurant is worth trying. Beautiful location by the lake and aesthetically done restaurant, it is a destination in itself, done on the theme of horses, legendary Chetak, to be precise.

Food is delicious though a bit on the high price. But then sometimes you pay for best memories. The candle lit tables, the view and service, everything combines to give a memorable experience indeed!

Things You Should Never Say To An Udaipurite

Take Notes People!

Explore the world as much as you want, you’ll never find a second Udaipur. The Venice of the east, the city of lakes, the white city, and the city with so many synonyms just has our heart.

We Udaipurites are real crazy for this city and why shouldn’t we. Udaipur is complete tranquility within the closed streets of old city; escape amongst the busy city roads; home in the chaos. So, you can say anything to an Udaipurite, but not these things!

Where Is Udaipur?

Dude! if you say this in front of an Udaipurite, you are going down for a long discussion, buddy. If you don’t know where Udaipur is, you might need to restudy geography class. (PS: Udaipurite, so can’t stand this one!)

Some Other City Is Most Beautiful City

There might be a ‘most beautiful city’ alright but have you seen Udaipur? Have you visited? Man, you gotta, before you make that statement. Definitely, you might wanna change that phrase of yours.

We Here Don’t Say Khamma Ghani

Every Rajasthani does not greet with khamma ghani, we here greet each other with Ram Ram Sa. So, next time when you meet us, you know what to say right?

Udaipur Must Be Hot & Dry

Nope; no; not at all. Your idea of Rajasthan might portray desserts and hot breezes but my friends, Udaipur is the Venice of the east & city of lakes for a reason. The place is surrounded by lush green Aravalis and is situated and neighbored by many lakes. So, no, we don’t live in desserts and it’s all cool in here (quite literally, this time of the year).

Are You A Marwadi?

Many have said this and I’ll say this again, we are not Marwadi, we are Mewadi. Proud ones though!

Hamji gyo? Now be aware and never offend an Udaipurite with these at least.

Being an Udaipurite if you feel like adding on to the list, so be our guest and let us acknowledge the world more about things you should not say to an Udaipurite. Share your points with us! And to have a visual experience click here.

Let’s understand how it works:

Senior citizen healthcare plans are health insurance policies that are specifically for elderly parents. The characteristics of the coverage are tailored to the needs of people in their later years. Individuals aged 60 and over, i.e., senior citizens, are eligible for these policies. These plans reimburse the medical expenditures incurred whenever the covered person is hospitalized. The best health insurance for parents has various features, such as:

  • Sum Insured

Parents’ health insurance policies have a restricted level of coverage. The coverage level is limited because insurance providers know the increased health risks connected with older adults. Most senior citizen health insurance policies provide coverage up to the limit of INR10 lakhs, with other plans allowing up to INR 25 lakhs.

  • Co-Pay Percentage

A co-pay percentage is present in every health insurance plan for anyone over the age of 60. The term “co-pay” refers to a split of the claim payment. In case of a claim, the policyholder would be responsible for paying a portion of the claim. If the percentage is 5%, the policyholder will pay 5% of the claim amount out of pocket.

  • Pre-Existing Disease Waiting Period

The best health insurance for parents covers pre-existing diseases after a brief waiting time. Since the plan is for people over the age of 60, the waiting period is short so that coverage may begin as soon as possible.

  • Discounts
