Thalassemia is a blood disorder passed down through families (inherited) in which the body makes an abnormal form of haemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. The disorder results in excessive destruction of red blood cells, which leads to anemia.
The Raven Charitable Trust is a foundation which is working with Thalassemic babies past 2 years. This year too, the foundation will be celebrating it with the kids suffering from this dreadful disese. These kids cannot survive if they are not transfused with blood every 20-25 days and because of so much transfusion their kidneys, liver and heart get affected and they ultimately die by the age of 13-14 years unless they are properly taken care of.
On this day the foundation is conducting a blood donation camp at Lake city hospital, Fatehpura, Udaipur from 9 AM to 1 PM with the help of Saral Blood bank and then is organizing a picnic for these small children by the Courtesy of Lal Bagh, Sardarpura from 2-6 PM where we would try to make the kids forget their pain and just enjoy.

Let me introduce everyone to Choreographer Bharat Verma- the Dance Maniac of Udaipur. Bharat at an early of age 7-8 years started participating in dance activities of school and regional level resulting in wonderful results. This inspired him to learn dance astonishingly. Later on at age of 14-15, he started taking classes to earn some extra money while studying and with the increase in number of students decided to form a Dance troupe uniting some of his students and in 2004 he found the most Spectacular dance Troupe of Udaipur renowned as “HEART BEATORS”. Choreographer Bharat is professionally trained and has learnt various dance forms from many famous dance institutes including Terence Lewis Dance Academy with masters in Salsa, Hip Hop, Western/Bollywood, Contemporary , Indian Semi classical, Locking & Popping etc.

Heart Beators did many fabulous shows across all over India including Udaipur, Jaipur , Delhi, Ahmadabad , Mumbai , Pune etc. and has received more than 15 state, Regional and national level awards including a prize from the Honorable President “Smt. Pratibha patil” (when she was Governor of Rajasthan) for the first Position at national College dance Competition for “Ghavri”(a Rajasthani Dance Form). After that they there was no looking back and Hear Beators got invitations from many Organizations to Perform Professionally as a Dance Troupe in Different Events. This lead to the formation of Heart Beators Dance Institute at Udaipur. Choreographer Bharat Verma started the institute with 10 students in 2004 and has so far taught more than 25,000 students across 12 cities in India. Today Heart Beators Institute teaches all dance forms preliminary from basic to Salsa, Hip Hop, Western/Bollywood, Contemporary, Indian Semi classical, Locking & Popping etc.

A series of session were held in last 5 days which acknowledged students to all those areas of technology which were jargons to them.
The session began with an INTRODUCTION TO FUMDAMENTALS OF RF CIRCUITS AND DESIGNS, which was delivered by Dr. MITHILESH KUMAR, associate Prof., RTU Kota. Various areas such as microwave devices, RF applications, technology trends of wireless communications, etc were explained in detail by him.
In series to it a lecture on FUMDAMENTALS OF NETWORK ANALYSIS was also given by him. Since he involved a number of numerical during the session hence it widened the approach towards network analysis. A last session on FILTER DESIGN lead to end of the first day of the workshop.
After the first day session INAUGRAL FUNCTION FOR IEEE student chapter was held and cultural event was being organized for one of our special guest Prof. Sorel Reisman, President IEEE COMPUTER SOCEITY, USA and many more eminent dignitaries, where the IEEE chapter was declared open.
The second day commenced with the lecture on THEORY AND PROCESS ON MICRO STRIP COMPONENTS AND DESIGN by Dr. Madhur Deo Upadhyay, research scholar, at CARE IIT DELHI.
A practical session on puff and serenade at Madhuban City centre was held under the guidance of S.P.CHKARBORTY.Another part began on 25th April- Monday, which included the introduction to MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical System) and COMSOL. Simultaneously practical sessions were held.
Under the guidance of Mr. Jitendra Singh Rathore, Rwitjeet Majumdar (faculty : mechanical department BITS PILANI), Rahul Ramchamdran ,Research Scholar, BITS, Pilani, and Deepak Krisnamurty, student NNMDC, BITS Pilani, the students studied the stimulation of a bus bar. The last day session included many more practical examples on the same.
The session signed off with the valedictory function where the dignitaries from BITS PILANI addressed the students and distribution of Certificates was also held up. The event marked an edge and understanding to new technologies as a carrier prospect. With the hard work of all, the event was a great success.
The Technical sessions were held on schedule from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. where the invited speaker Dr. Sunil Joshi from MPUAT, Udaipur discussed about the future research issues and challenges in the field of wireless broadband. He said that there is a great gap between the broadband standards of USA, Japan, and the standards of India. In India the speed above 256 Kbps is treated as broadband whereas in USA 100Mbps standard is treated as the broadband. The reason being that we are highly dependent on the wired technologies and networks.

He discussed various wired to wireless issues, and alternatives for the present scenario, and presented designs to expect a bandwidth of 1Gbps.

R.S. Vyas (Director, Techno India NJR Institute of Technology), Dr. R.C. Purohit (Dean, CTAE), Dr. S.S. Rathore (Chairman, Udaipur local centre, IE (I)), Dr. Y.C. Bhatt (honorary secretary, IE(I)).

The welcome address was given by Dr. S.S. Rathore where he welcomed all the delegates and praised the spirit of organizing committee for organizing such a great event. Dr. DharmSingh gave the report and recommendation of the international conference. He told that during the 3 days and 17 technical sessions of the conference, about 517 entries were received, out of which 157 research papers were presented, and about 135 papers were accepted and sent to the IEEE digital library.
Er. Rakesh Sehgal, the director of department of Cyber Security from CDAC, Mohali expressed his kind gratitude and presented a few words of appreciation for the ETNCC. Er. R.S. Vyas expressed his dream of establishing Udaipur as the leading quality education hub. He said that the IEEE-CS students’ chapter was inaugurated in Techno India NJR on 22nd April at Udaipur, with registration of 80+ members. He re-declared his commitment to keep running more such programs and events in the near future.
Dr. R.C. Purohit welcomed all the delegates and participants. He said that taking MPUAT to the international scenario was not at all possible without the eminent guidance of Dr. Chahal. He also praised Er. R.S. Vyas, saying that his 3 years of efforts in Udaipur was greatly comparable to over 25 years of Mr. Purohit’s works.
Mr. Sanjay Singhal presented his views about the role of engineers as the key element in every society. He said that people have huge misconceptions about risks from any cause. Only an engineer is taught to and knows about all risks in his sphere of works. It is thus, an engineer’s duty to engage himself in analyzing the risks and conveying it to the society. He also said that the media is an important platform, and must not put all sort of nonsense to misguide people.
Prof. Sorel Reisman appreciated the conference, saying that the selection of more than 100 papers for the IEEE library shows that quality of the papers presented here were unquestionable. He said that India is a leading software producer in the world, and will soon come up as a leading technology exporter in the world. He was greatly impressed by the rich culture of Udaipur, the traditional food, visit to lakes and the Ranakpur temple. He said that this is not the end. Soon he will be holding online webinars with IEEE Udaipur students in the coming times.
Dr. S.S. Chahal said that computers in all forms have become an indispensable part of life. He also said that 70-75% of the population in India comes from villages. Therefore the modern technologies must also penetrate to the rural masses. Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Y.C. Bhatt.

The International Conference on emerging trends in networks and computer communications (ETNCC-2011) started on 22nd April 2011. The chief guest Prof. Sorel Reisman, President IEEE (USA) inaugurated the conference and in his keynote speech he emphasized on commercial usability of modern communication systems, discussed the establishment and needs for setting up of cloud computing standards. He also discussed the role and the activities of the IEEE Computer Society USA., and wished for connecting more and more emerging scientists and students with this network so that the public can be more and more benefited from it.
Er. G. Prabhakar, President, Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI) Kolkata discussed about the development made by the communication and mobile networks in past few decades. He said that to benefit the tribal section of south Rajasthan area, AMIE examination will soon be started in Udaipur.
Dr. V.R. Singh discussed the importance of such conferences and meetings, and encouraged the establishment of industries, and hence entrepreneurship instead of finding jobs, but to provide jobs to the young engineers. On the first day of conference, about 36 research papers were presented on various topics such as VLSI technology, Security Systems, wireless transmission media, etc. The conference will continue on 23rd and 24th April 2011 too.

Cheti Chand is the Sindhi New Year Day celebrated on the second day of Cheti month (Chaitra month). This year Cheti Chand falls on April 5, 2011. This festival is similar to other Hindu New Year festivals. Cheti Chand is celebrated as a commemoration of birthday of Sindhi patron saint Jhulelal. This festival is to give honor the birth of Water God (Varun Devta) popularly known as Jhulelal. The Sindhi community is seen wishing each other in the native Sindhi Language “Cheti Chand jyon Lakh Lakh Wadayun Athav”, which means lacs of wishes for Happy Cheti Chand. Historically Cheti Chand is the birthday of Lal Sain Amarlal hence this is the most important day for the sindhi community and celebrated with that high spirit and emotions.
How we celeberate it
As a tradition, followers of Jhulelal observe Chaliho Sahab. It suggests that for forty long days and nights they underwent ritual on the bank of Sindhu. They did not shave, nor did they wear new clothes or shoes. They did not use soap or oil or any opulent thing. They just washed their clothes, dried them and wore them again. In the evening, they worshipped Lord Varuna, sang songs in his praise and prayed for their solace and salvation. After 40 days of Chaaliho, the followers of Jhulelal celebrate the occasion with festivity as ‘Thanks Giving Day’ even till today.
On this day, many Sindhis take Baharana Sahib to a nearby river or lake. Baharana Sahib consists of Jyot (Oil Lamp), Misiri (Crystal Sugar), Phota (Cardamom), Fal (Fruits), and Akha. Behind is Kalsh (Water jar) and a Nariyal (Coconut) in it, covered with cloth, phool (flowers) and patta (leaves). There is also a Murti (Idol) of Pujya Jhulelal Devta.
Sindhis keep their shops and activities closed on this day even food is not cooked at the home and they gathered at community building (at Jhulelal Temple, where after a session of singing, worship of Jhulelal is made and procession of Bahrano is taken out. Cities Like Ulhasnagar, Ajmer, Indore, Kolhapur, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Surat etc are famous for unique style of Cheti Chand celebration and huge gathering of sindhi people.In City of Lakes at Shakti nagar there is a temple of Jhulelal sahib where a fair is organized by the community peoples on ” Sindhi New Year Day”. Various types of treats are also available for common community peoples.

In UDAIPUR the main temple of Jhulelal sahib (Sanathan Mandir) is situated at Shakti Nagar. Its main feature is a JYOT which is brought by the Ancestors of Sindhi Community after separation of HINDUSTAN (India) & PAKISTAN (1947).

The usual tradition is that on this day Sindhis bring out procession of water God Lord Jhulelal, In the form of Bahrano Sahib from Sindhudham (Jawaher nagar) to Sanatan temple in Shakti nagar where the holy MAHA ARTI takes place . During the procession of Bahrano Sahib traditional sindhi folk dance “Chhej” is performed by all age group Sindhis. After that talented Sindhi students are awarded for their excellence in academics. On this eve of NEW YEAR a Sindhi Fair is also organized by the community people, followed by an arrangement of refreshment is made for all Sindhi Community people.
Lastly, at night there is Visarjan ceremony of Bahrano Sahib.

ACHIEVMENTS BY THE SINDHI COMMUNITY PEOPLE:-
The people and community (“APNA SANGHATAN”) involved in making the different images of Jhulelal with the help of marbles without using adhesive were even mentioned in the Limca book of records in 2006-07 namely Mr. Surendra Arora, and Mr. Virendra Khabrani
The oldest existing, and proudly Indian calendar, Vikram Samvat entered its 2068th year today. In honouring the Indian culture, all the main streets of the city saw children from Alok Sansthan offering Tilak, Gud, Coriander seeds and Neem leaves, as a souvenir of good luck and health throughout the year. In the evening, there was a great celebration at Doodh Talai. This was not only a celebration, but also a tradition in Udaipur which is kept alive since past 30 years.
The entire Doodh Talai was crowded with enthusiastic Udaipies as well as many honourable dignitaries which included Ex MLA Gulab Chand Katariya, Municipal Corporation Chairman Mrs. Rajni Dangi, founder of Alok Sansthan Mr. Shyam Lal Kumawat, and many more.
Mrs Rani Dangi emphasized on keeping the city and our lakes clean, and appeal for disposal of minimal waste into lakes was made. The programme was then followed by the Deep Pravah, and huge rounds of fireworks.

A two day food festival has been organised in the city by Shikshantar, a Non Profit organisation on the theme of Jaso Ann, Vaso Man or You are what you eat. The fest has been organised in the Hanuman Temple at Devali near Fateh Sagar between 4-8 p.m. in the evening. Being a variety food lover I made up my mind to visit the place. When I went there I was warmly welcomed by Mr. Manish Jain, the co-founder of Shikshantar. There were many stalls with mouth watering dishes.
The dishes were few famous national and international cuisines we have often heard of, but they have been modified with the local and healthier contents. To begin with, I started with Tacos, originally a Mexican dish, but modified as per the regional grains and vegetation stuffs of Rajasthan. The crispy base was prepared of the “Khakhra” and the topping of salads and “Rajma” or red kidney beans. The next attraction was of the Veg Kababs made of beetroot or “Chukandar”, with a nice blend of flavours of coconut and coriander chutney.
The cookie sandwiches made of Mal, Ragi or Finger Millet and fresh fruits stuffed within redefined my dictionary meaning of sweet dish, to a healthier one. Sweet dish made of sanwa, a local foodstuff, coconut laddoos, pineapple puddings, Jwar ki kheer, pinapple and Sabudana Kheer , Kokam Sharbat (Squash made of kokam) and Pina Colada (A blend of coconut milk and pineapple juice), Ragi steam bread sandwitches, etc were few more delicious, yet healthy food items present at the fest.

“Fast food has always harmed the healthy living. This food fest is in support of the concept of Slow Food movement, or the movement for switching to our home made food with local food stuffs. Today the high price we are paying for our eatables in the market is actually for the bulk amount of pesticides, insecticides, and harmful chemicals which eventually make way to our stomach. The crops like Ragi, Mal, Bajra are available locally and has been grown in villages and tribal areas from ancient times in this region. They have capacity to withstand intense climate changes. They are not so often attacked by insects, pests, etc and have great nutritive values, much greater than our conventional sources such as wheat, milk etc. These things just need to be promoted to the common masses, who want to sustain with a healthy living”

“I started working on the concept of Healthy food and healthy alternatives to fast food with Manoj Prajapat. We have worked for many years, and evolved with our idea, and made them better day by day. All the dishes presented here are cooked in zero oil and zero fat (Ghee/Butter), all the stuffs are either in their raw forms or steamed, as every nutritive value is lost on frying or cooking. We haven’t even used the cow’s milk, so as to ensure zero animal content. Coconut milk has been used as its alternative. In the sweet dishes, every care has been taken care of to ensure that there is minimal usage of additional sweeteners, and the natural sweetness has been emphasized. Still, wherever needed, we have used Gud and Misri instead of sugar.”
