Another Internet Shutdown in Smart City Udaipur

In the book of internet shutdowns 2018 of Udaipur, another internet shutdown is going to take place tomorrow i.e. 7th October 2018. The time for the same is 9 am to 5 pm. The order was released by the office of the divisional commissioner on 5th October 2018.

You ask why? This time the reason for the shutdown is Deputy Inspector General of Police Recruitment examination 2018 which will be conducted on Sunday. Like always, the decision has been taken in order to prevent the leakage of the examination papers and mass copying during the examination. And so, the most convenient option from the administration’s end was to shut down the internet.

However, some questions that raise in every commoner’s mind is that ‘Is this the most effective solution to control cheating during the examination? Is there completely no alternate for the same? Before taking such measures, does the amount of loss faced by the citizens ever cross the administration’s mind? Is it necessary to ban the internet of the entire district rather than putting jammers on the examination spots?’

A thing to note:

Within a period of 3 months, the city has faced internet shutdowns for 4 days. It seems like the city is facing internet bans at a frequency at which it faced power cuts earlier. At such rate, more shutdowns like such can be expected in the upcoming month.

During the period of this internet ban, the lease line services will remain unaffected.

This 150 Year Old Sweet Shop in Udaipur Must Be in Your Checklist!

Are you a sweet tooth? Let us take you to a very famous sweet shop in Udaipur-

Lala Mishthan Bhandar

Source: Taste of City

Lala Mishthan Bhandar was started by ‘Lala Narayan Ji’ somewhere 150 years ago. Apparently, the shop has been named after him. Located near the Ghanta Ghar police station, this shop is ever crowded by people who come here to relish the authentic taste of seasonal desserts and sweets and undoubtedly the sweets are mouthwatering.

We had a very interesting conversation with Mr. Hemendra Sahu who told us about the shop. He said that Lala Ji was his grandfather. He lived for an astonishing 103 years. It is getting operated from several years ago and quite evidently it has seen the golden era of kings and queens in Udaipur. Today, this sweet shop is witnessing its fourth generation.

Must try things to try at Lala Misthan Bhandar

Gulab Jamun

Preparation of Gulab Jamun

Gulab Jamun at this place is one of the best things you’ll taste in the city. These soft, flavorsome and light on the palette Gulab Jamun will instantly melt in your mouth leaving heavenly sweetness behind. Best time to have Gulab Jamun is morning and evening when they are freshly prepared. With every Gulab Jamun in your mouth, you can enjoy the sight of their preparation.

There are various snacks that can be found at the Lala Mishthan Bhandar. From Matri, Mathiya, Kachori, Gaathiya, to various kinds of Namkeen, the sweet shop won’t let you leave you empty-handed.

These seasonal Barfis and sweets are great to satiate your sweet cravings. They claim that the special ‘aam ki barfi’ is something which is only available here in the entire town. Trust me! They are a delight!

Rot, Panjeeri and other types of ‘Prasad’ (offerings to God)

Jaggery Rot

Rot (रोट) is a thick chapati made up of rough wheat flour. It is fried in ‘Ghee’ and topped up with Jaggery (Gur) and hot ‘Ghee’.

This Rot is prepared every Tuesday as an offering to Lord Hanuman. People from all around the city come and buy it to offer at Lord Hanuman’s temple situated at different places in the town. It is later shared among the devotees in the form of ‘Prasad’. One cannot find this special ‘Rot’ at any other shop except ‘Lala Mishthan Bhandar’.

Not only this, they make prasad for various occasions too, like ‘Panjeeri’ is made as an offering to the Lord.

An Interesting Conversation with the Founder of ‘Preparation For Career’ Meenakshi Bherwani Jotwani

On 23rd September 2018, PFC – Preparation For Career which is run by Meenakshi Bherwani Jotwani, celebrated the successful completion of a month. On this occasion, we had a very interesting conversation with Ms. Meenakshi about her journey. Read along to know about it.

Tell us about yourself and what do you do?

I am a Chartered Accountant, Company Secretary, Information Systems Auditor, and India Rank holder (in my professional degrees, 2nd rank all India level in CS and all India 20th Merit in CA)

After completing my education, I worked with various Multinational companies in UAE like British Petroleum, Reedhycalog, Royal group etc. I shifted back to Udaipur and for the last 7 years, I have been working in education Industry.

Tell us about your institute?

PFC, an institute which offers degrees like ACCA – Global CA, Graduation from Oxford Brookes, a Masters from London University, CAT, DIPLOMA IN IFRS etc. Different students have different aptitudes and we offer courses on the basis of their aptitudes.

What has your journey been like?

I started teaching at an institute when I was 17 years old, my first batch was of CPT students were a few months younger to me. I was pursuing CA-Intermediate at that time. Thereafter, my corporate work experience in UAE taught me a lot about the way an education system should be, my interest in this field made me interact with people of different nationalities, different backgrounds, and different qualifications. I started conducting workshops on Mnemonic techniques (a technique which enhances your memory power), taken various seminars as a career counselor and motivational speaker.

And my interactions with students, educationalist of different nationalist made me realize that education should be Practical, Job Oriented and conceptual.

What is the current scenario of education especially the commerce stream?

Commerce in our city is viewed as a stream which has a limited number of options but on the contrary, it is actually a stream which has an amazing number of options, which are popular and available in metro cities.

The traditional options being taught by traditional methods might help students get good grades but not be sufficient for them to survive in the current job market. We need to pay more stress on practical training and we need to understand that not all students will have the aptitude/interest to become CA/CS/MBA.

How is your institute different from the rest in Udaipur? What do think makes it different?

I strongly believe that bookish knowledge will help a student get a degree and practical knowledge will help him/her fetch a Great Job, hence education at PFC is a blend of both book as well as practical knowledge. We have a technical skill room for the same where we provide our students with technical training.

Fridays: quiz and quick revision days

Saturdays: test and motivational session days where we had 100% attendance in these sessions and students of other institutes have also been attending the motivational seminars and sessions on a regular basis.

There is also a Creative Wall for the students at PFC, the idea behind the same is that number of thoughts run into our mind on a daily basis, few people jot them down while the majority tend to ignore. Over the time the wall has made us realize that all students are deep thinkers, have a creative mind, all they need is a little support and guidance to develop this into an analytical brain

Regular skill development training is conducted, which will ensure that they bag great placements after completing their education.

What are accolades or facilitation you have received up till now?

As a tutor, in past years I have been Awarded as the best faculty from

  • Times of India
  • Dainik Bhaskar
  • Rajasthan Patrika
  • Rukmani foundation
  • FINPLAN INDIA
  • Big FM
  • NAMO Vichaar Manch

In ACCA Global C, 6 students in my subject scored international merits and 2 bagged 5th world rank with 96% marks in my subject due to which I was felicitated as the best tutor by Lucia Martin, ACCA Asia Head, by Meriaki Award.

I strongly believe that credit for these awards goes to my students as in CA-CPT- Law 8 of my students scored 100% marks in law. More than 50 students have scored exemptions in CA/ CS LAW. I cannot thank them enough for sincerely following the instructions/strategies advised to them in class.

What are the different career choices a commerce student can make?

At PFC we offer unconventional courses to students like:

ACCA – Global CA, ACCA is an expert in IFRS (International financial reporting standards) and all Multinational companies maintain their accounts AS PER IFRS SYTEM and thus need ACCA’s to take care of their accounts department

ACCA’s have to Job opportunities in 182 countries including India.

Other than that, we also provide other courses like:

*Graduation from Oxford Brookes University

*Masters from London University

*GAT – Global Accounting Technician

*CAT- Certified Accounting technician

*Dip IFRS – Diploma in IFRS

*Technical Accountant – Tally, Adv excel and Cloud Computing training

*GST Expert – Practical training in GST returns

*CMA- Cost and management accountant

*Project feasibility reporting

*Digital Marketing

Your institute has completed its one month today, how does it feel?

It’s like a dream come true, where we explore and discover new things, new ideas are encouraged, the institute gives a loud and clear message that education can be way too interesting if the approach is correct

And the response of the students has been overwhelming, in this journey of one month our students and course options have multiplied many fold times and I am thankful to the students for their open-minded approach towards new career options and new teaching methods

What inspired you to come with this institution?

As a student of Udaipur city, I always felt that we had very few career options available as compared to Metro cities and therefore when as a tutor I got an opportunity to introduce some unconventional courses in Udaipur city, I grabbed it and started my own center with the name PFC – Preparation for Career.

As I believe that there is nothing like a weak and intelligent student at the end of the day it’s all about interest, every student can excel in his or her field provided he/she selects the right field as per their interest area.

What career advice would you give to the students reading this?

  • First and foremost, don’t choose something as your career option just because your friends are choosing it or your family members are asking you to choose the field.
  • Understand your aptitude/interest area, inquire about the options available their scope and their area of work/practice and then decide what you want to be, because this is one choice with which you will have to spend your entire life.
  • Will you allow a surgeon who has multiple degrees and has scored India level ranks to perform a surgery on your body if he says that this is the first ever time he will be in Operation Theatre since he never underwent any practical training till date?

The answer would be no, right? So, practical knowledge is important than theoretical knowledge.

  • Training is an indispensable part of any degree, so keep adding on to your skills as an when possible

Who is your role model?

I have 2 sisters and no brother(s), as a father of 3 daughters my dad frequently reminded us that it’s more important for a girl to complete her education and be financially independent than a boy and I am so thankful to him for his guidance and support when It came to my education.

And the same thing has inspired me to start some social Campaign with my students wherein we teach, less privileged girls who cannot afford coaching fees, of XII STD, without any charge.

We heard you run a “donate a book” campaign. What is it?

Here, students can leave their old books on the shelves we have made in the class and those who need the same can pick from those shelves without any questions being asked.

I firmly believe that education is the only way which can help Students change their life and life of people around them. So, let’s guide them well, give them the right direction and watch them create wonders.
