At age of becoming grand parents, IVF turns childless couple parents

The excitement is palpable in Dhundarka village of Mandsaur. A childless couple, who was not able to conceive a child for over 35 years, has recently given birth to a baby boy through IVF. The mother is 50 and father 54years old. The couple is blessed by the advancements in technology .  It is amazing to see the satisfying shine on their faces,” said IVF specialist Dr. Shweta Agarwal of R.K.Hospital & Infertility (IVF) Center, Udaipur.

The Couple with their Child

The couple, Sohandevi and Suratram, said that they had been trying for a child and undergoing treatment and visited various temples also in past 30 years now. The father is a correspondent in local news magazine. Getting older, the social urge to have a child became more intense and the couple decided to give technology another shot.

“Sohandevi is uneducated, but she understood all about the treatment and was very patient. And by God’s grace she got pregnant in the first attempt of IVF only”, said Dr. Shweta Agarwal. “We had counseled the couple about the challenges of getting a child so late in life, but they were ready. When we placed the son in her lap, she seemed content,” Dr Shweta said.  Sohandevi’s case only highlights the acceptability IVF has gained in the society. “People from lower socio-economic strata who are not very educated are getting comfortable with IVF but do not accept surrogacy. They feel that society will accept the child better if the child is reared in her own womb”, says Dr Shweta.

One click away to ensure education for children in Udaipur!

Right to Education, Udaipur
Right to Education, Udaipur : Image Credits: newton007.com

Udaipur city situated in the southern part of Rajasthan in India is popularly known for its heritage point. Every year around thousands of foreign tourists come to visit and explore. On the other hand the outskirts of the city following the range of 7-10 kilometers are bunched with hundreds of big and small villages. These hundreds of villages are confined under numbers of issues like illiteracy, unemployment, child-labour, infanticide, drought, etc which are the biggest constraints for development. However, Government and various Non Government Organization is working in these contexts.

A study done by MIT University of New York reported that around 30% of children in Udaipur between 6-14 years are out of or never been to school. Despite of many government interventions like Right to education, Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan the above percentage draws a dull picture in our mind. There are many reasons which all together sum up the above figure. Children can’t reach to the schools as Government schools are located far from their place or parents need someone who can contribute in the household work and income because majority of the people are Below Poverty line. Many children after enrolling themselves in schools don’t attend the class because of the teacher’s absenteeism, poor facilities provided in the school and low grasping power of children.

Since 1974 Seva Mandir is working in this origin. With the passage of time, lots of changes are made in the strategies and pedagogy. At present 188 Rural School (popularly known as Shiksha Kendra) are running which is reaching out to 5,694 students and every year over 1,000 new students are enrolled.

Children’s capability is assessed before their admission and they get enrolled in three different levels A, B, & C. The highest level is A, after completing this level they are graduated from Rural School. Every year more than 840-850 students graduate from Seva Mandir’s school and take admission in government school their retention rate stands at 87.5% which is comparatively high from other children. More importantly the SKs help in strengthening the retention of children in government schools. The learning provided in the SKs develop children’s basic literacy and academic skills, enabling them to grasp better and even study on their own.

At present school has emerged as a hub of activities ensuring quality education which enables them to read and write independently with comprehension. The pedagogy adopted is child centric, engages the children in different activities. Rural Schools are single teachers-schools in which teachers belong to the same village. They are provided with regular training, certification courses and capacity building sessions which are designed to make teaching more context-oriented, child centered, interesting and enjoyable by strengthening the teachers’ conceptual understanding of the subjects they teach (math and language), and emphasizing the practical aspects of how to conduct classroom transactions. It also works proactively towards enabling the communities to demand quality education from Government.

You can read stories and watch videos which will help u to understand them better.

Seva Mandir have ensured funds for 4,000 children but They need funds to reach another 1,000 children. The opportunity of reaching out these children now is tenfold for them as They are participating in an online fundraising India Giving Challenge, 2011 starting from of Give India as a part of Joy of Giving week commencing from 6th September till 20th October and They have a chance to win a part of matching grant amounting Rs. 65 lacs.

You can help them by changing the life of one child by sending him/her to school for 1 year with a donation of Rs. 2,000/-. The minimum amount they are requesting is 400/- that enables a child to attend school for 66 days. You can donate them by your

  • Debit or credit card or
  • Net banking or
  • Demand draft/cheque favoring Give India.

Through iGive page. You will get tax benefit if you are citizen of India/UK/USA. GiveIndia will provide e-receipt for every donation. For more details please write to rmu@sevamandir.org

You can also help them by championing our project either by promoting their cause through e-media facebook, blogs and indoor (local businesses, banks, etc) mediums or by donation solicitation.

All you need to know about Paryushan

Money does not pay nor name; fame does not pay nor learning. It is love that pays; it is character that cleaves through the adamantine walls of difficulties! Non-violence is the supreme religion (Ahimsa parmo dharma) and Jainism is one of the oldest religions of India.

Paryushan Parva is the king of all festivals and hence is known as Parvadhiraj – well recognized festival of jain community when every jain follows the basic principles of Jainism that is Right knowledge, right faith, and right conduct, all the three are most essentials for attaining liberation, the 8 days festival ends with a samvatsari day, followed by sampana day or the kshamayachna divas. We understand the word by breaking it in two, pari means to recollect yourself and vasan means at a place that means to know yourself recollect your own self at a place in your spirit.

Due to our daily routine we spend almost out of ourselves basically due to eating out, going to places, working day in and out etc but these are the days to introspect in our own selves. Our nature is full of “me” and “mine” but during these days the holiness fills us with the feeling of us-the transformation needed in today’s world. The Jains treat it as a festival of tyag and tapasya.

Traditionally, the Samvatsari is celebrated on the Bhadrapad Shukla Chaturthi or Panchmi. Paryushana is the most prominent festival (lasting eight days for Svetambara Jains and ten days for Digambars) during the monsoons. The monsoon is considered the best time for fasting due to lenient weather. However, a Jain may fast at any time, especially if he/she feels some mistake (negative karma generally known as paap or ‘papa’) has been committed. Variations in fasts encourage Jains to do whatever they can to have self-control. Fasting is one of the main tools for practicing external austerity. It helps to keep the demands of the body under check and assists in the focus on the upliftment of the soul.

Depending on the capacity of an individual, there are several types of fasting:

  • Complete fasting: giving up food and/or water completely for a period.
  • Partial fasting: eating less than you need to avoid hunger.
  • Vruti Sankshepa: limiting the number of items of food eaten.
  • Rasa Parityaga: giving up favorite foods

During fasting one immerses oneself in religious activities such as worshiping, serving the saints (monks and nuns & to be in their proximity), reading scriptures, meditating, and donating to the right recipients. However, before starting the fast Jains take a small vow known as pachkaan.

Lord Mahaveera started a yearly festive of samvatsari for the inner spiritual development and a check on it. On this day through various ways described in the religion people try to remit the mistakes committed throughout the year by recalling them asking sorry for them, feeling guilty for the mistakes committed, and through Dhyan (meditation), Swadhaya (self evaluation) and Tapasya(paining oneself to acquit from the various mistakes). On this day people chant

hyms devoting them to the Tirthankar’s, visit their Guru and listen to their preaching and vow not to repeat the mistakes and hurt any living form knowingly and unknowingly. Many jainis depending on their health fast all day long, go for samayik and recite the Namokar mantras.

Khamatkhamana is a important part of this day. It includes asking sorry from every one and forgiving them as well for hurting them knowingly or unknowingly. The process continues the next day where people visit there friends and relatives and all the known and ask forgiveness.

This day marks the end of ego and spread of love and humanity.

“Do not injure, abuse, oppress, enslave, insult, torment, torture, or kill any creature or living being.”

Rakhi – The Thread of love

Rakhi Wishes

Finally, the festive season has begun and after the monsoon greenery, its time to see the festive colors all around. The market is lad in colors and is ready to welcome you with every possible thing which makes your festival a complete one.

India is considered rich in culture not only because we have so many festivals marked in our calendar, but because here every relation is a festival in itself. It s not about celebrating these festivals but it is about thanking God for each and every relationship He’s bestowed us with.

The forthcoming and the most awaited festival RAKHI is on its way to start with the spat of Indian festivals. It is considered as one of the most beautiful relationship in this world- a relationship of a brother and a sister. The endless small fights and the never ending love between a brother and a sister makes it pure as an elixir. You find a care of a father, a scolding of a mother and an advice of a friend in this relationship.

Thanks to UB that I got a chance to write something on this heavenly festival which means more then a world to me.

This RAKHI is very special to me as after this my bro will not be with me for the next four years. Bro no matter how much the distance between us, but I know you’ll be there with me as always whenever I’ll need you. I’ll miss you a lot and this was the best possible way I could express my love for you. It is an unconditional bond of love. The essence it carries and the aroma it creates is like a meditation to the soul. No matter what happens, no matter how badly you get into trouble, you know that your bro or sis will be always there to stand by you. You can share all your secrets with them , of course, with a little tension that they might come out of their mouth if you happen to fight with them but still with a trust that they won’t let it out.

Cheers to such a crazy, funny and a lovely relationship of a bro and a sis. I feel blessed to be a part of it. Thank you God and thanks mum and dad for this precious and ever-lasting gift. I still remember how badly I used to crave for it above all my dolls n toys.
A very Happy Rakshabandhan to all the Udaipies.

Enjoy and have fun and a special note for every sis- Don’t leave your brother without the gifts. 🙂

The Royal Prince is now at a distance of a ‘LIKE’

Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar

The Mewar Royal Family and The Eternal Mewar dynasty need no introduction, not only to us but to the entire world.

The Royal Family has always been lending a helpful hand to our city whenever needed, via many of its charitable trusts, and social works. The HRH group of hotels also, does not need any introduction; it is famous both among the masses and the classes. In the same chain, to increase the public interaction directly with the royal family, the prince of the Eternal Mewar dynasty, His Highness Mr. Lakshyaraj Singh Ji Mewar has taken another social hi-tech step, and that step is interaction via Facebook.

The most charming and adorable prince is now on Facebook via his official public profile page which already has more than 1900 members. Here he interacts with the public, shares his views about the city, and his thoughts of wisdom with everyone. This is first of its kind phenomenon of social interaction as there has been no such attempt by any royal family in India. He tries his best to respond to each and every comment or post.

On asking his highness The Prince of Mewar about his idea for taking such an innovative step, He says, “It has not been as a very long time since I am back home to my motherland. I have been missing my family, friends, the city and its vibrant colorful life. Coming back home feels like being at ease, and being among my own people. A sense of belonging exists. Being back home and connecting with citizen, I feel great pleasure with the love and friendly response I receive from them.

He hopes to hear more from people and share more so that together we could create a better tomorrow by creating a better today for our City.

Hariyali Amavasya – Welcoming Greenery and Monsoon

haryali amavasya udaipur

Haryali Amavasya – A perfect green day for recreation and enjoyment in Udaipur. The
beautiful festival is round the corner, waiting for a splendid welcome
by us on 30th of this very rainy month. As the name suggest, it is
celebrated on first amavasya of ‘saawan’ to celebrate the lush greenery
 of Udaipur.

Haryali amavasya is a day of extreme importance for us as it traces its
path from the past. The kings of Udaipur considered it as an
auspicious day and used to put on a fair for the common people of and around Udaipur. The fair gathers all the people together acting as a means of national
integration. Being a traditional fair, the tradition is followed unbroken till date.

There is a huge festive fair that begins from Saheliyon ki Bari and spreads its
glories till Fatehsagar. The various places midway are open for the people for free like Moti Magri, Saheliyon ki Bari. The loud noise and screams of the vendors fill this
 fair with extreme energy.
Guess what adds taste to this vibrating festival??
Yes!! The very famous “Rabri Malpua”  😀 of Udaipur. Adding to the life and color of this festive fair are ‘poopadia’, ‘paani ke gubbare’, colorful caps, chat-pakoda stalls, and various high rides and swings. Traditional songs, dance, food and costume escalate the verve of hariyali amavasya celebrations.

The fair is continued to next day but is restricted only till female
folks. The vibrant colors of the costumes and ethnic jewellery
catch the attention of all the beautiful ladies. A special care is
taken, that the joyous moments of these beauties are not stolen by the
men. All the females of the city can walk around, dine with friend
and shop for themselves without any obstructions.

This day is usually declared as an off for all the government offices and schools by the Collector of Udaipur City. In the plight of this, the various schools celebrate it a day before with
colorful and energetic programs. The social clubs running in Udaipur
celebrate this amavasya with enthusiasm and excitement through
execution of various cultural programs including tree plantation and
enjoying the feast together. Many delicious food items are cooked at homes also and families are seen enjoying Garma Garam Pakodas and boiling hot tea with roasted Corn at Fatehsagar.

The festival just adds to the unforgettable memories. The light scatters from the rain drops and spreads the feeling of brotherhood, humanity and love for the tradition.

But let’s not forget our duty and love for our very own city. This charming city belongs to us and being fellow citizens it is our responsibility to encourage cleanliness and spread the word of hygiene all over. It is seen very often that a traditional event is well
followed by the usual sight of littering roads, thrown wrappers and
peels of fruits which leads to various kinds of fatal diseases like
malaria and cholera. The beautiful lakeside is seen carrying rubbish
on the surface of water which masks its sparkling blue color. It’s a humble
request to all the Udaipies to keep the city clean, green and beautiful. Contribute in the best possible way to take care of cleanliness of this heaven on earth.

Let’s unite, rejuvenate and enjoy this festive season to the fullest!! 🙂
