पोलियों, सेरेब्रल पाल्सी से पीड़ित लोगों की पिछले 30 साल से मदद करता नारायण सेवा संस्थान

उदयपुर में शायद ही कोई ऐसा हो जिसनें, नारायण सेवा संस्थान का नाम न सुना हो। अब तो न सिर्फ् उदयपुर और राजस्थान ही नहीं देस-परदेस के लोगो के लिए भी यह एक जाना-पहचाना नाम बन चूका है। इसका उदहारण, हमें भी वहीं जाकर मिला जब हमनें देखा कि राजस्थान के अलावा उत्तर-प्रदेश, मध्य-प्रदेश, छत्तीसगढ़ के साथ साथ गुजरात, महाराष्ट्र आदि राज्यों से लोग अपना या अपने बच्चों का इलाज करवाने के लिए यहाँ आए हुए हैं।

यह वो लोग थे जो उम्मीद खो चुके थे कि अब कुछ नहीं हो सकता या वो भी जो पोलियो-सेरेब्रल पाल्सी के इलाज में लगने वाले खर्च का वहन नहीं कर सकते थे। टीवी, विज्ञापन और माउथ पब्लिसिटी (जो यहाँ इलाज करवा चुके हैं, उनके द्वारा बताएं जाने पर) ही इन सभी को पता लगा था कि यहाँ पर निःशुल्क इलाज किया जाता हैं। दिलचस्प बात ये भी हैं कि दूर-दराज से आने वाले लोगों को NSS(नारायण सेवा संस्थान) वाले रेलवे स्टेशन/बस स्टेशन तक लेने और छोड़ने भी जाते हैं ताकि उन्हें किसी तरह की तकलीफ़ ना हो और ये सबकुछ निःशुल्क सेवा-भाव से किया गया कार्य होता है।

नारायण सेवा संस्थान, उदयपुर में करीब 730 के आसपास एम्प्लोयी हैं जो खुद को एम्प्लोयी मानने से मना करते हैं। इन्हें ‘साधक’ की उपाधि दी हुई है और इलाज करवाने आए सभी लोग भी साधक कह कर ही पुकारते हैं।

वहां के एक साधक से बात करने पर एक अचंभित करने वाले आंकड़ा पता चला। यहाँ आने वाले मरीजों की अपडेटेड वेटिंग लिस्ट 14,000 है जो कभी 30,000 के करीब हुआ करती थी। इसी से आप अंदाजा लगा सकते हैं कि कितने और ज़रूरतमंद अपने नंबर का इन्तजार कर रहे हैं।

प्रशांत अग्रवाल जो कि नारायण सेवा संस्थान के जनक कैलाश ‘मानव’ अग्रवाल के बेटे हैं, उनसे हुई बातचीत में उन्होंने नारायण सेवा संस्थान के बनने से लेकर अब तक के कई किस्से साझा किए। उनमें से कुछ हम यहाँ आपके साथ शेयर कर रहे है:-

जब पिताजी ने इसकी शुरुआत की थी तब इसका कोई नामकरण नहीं हुआ था। वो बस मदद करना चाहते थे। लेकिन कुछ साल बाद किसी के सुझाव पर नाम रखने की सोची। तब इसका नाम ‘दरिद्र नारायण सेवा’ रखा गया। लेकिन माँ के कहने पर नाम से ‘दरिद्र’ शब्द हटा दिया गया।
एक और किस्सा वो ये बताते हैं कि शुरू में किसी ने पिताजी के इस काम को तवज्जो नहीं दी, उल्टा सभी इनका विरोध ही करते रहे। जिस कॉलोनी हम रहा करते थे तब सामान से लदा ट्रक आया जिसकी वजह से कॉलोनी में लगा एक पत्थर टूट गया। इस पर कॉलोनीवासियों ने विरोध करना शुरू कर दिया और इस काम को बंद करने को कहा। बाद में पिताजी के ये कहने पर कि ये एक नेक काम है और वो पत्थर में फिर से लगवा दूंगा तब जाकर वो लोग शांत हुए।

Pannadhai road, Sector 14

This road begins from right opposite to the Saras Parlour from where one can be able to reach Pannadhai Museum. It overlooks Goverdhan Sagar and meets with the main road near to Goverdhan Garden which can possibly be your next destination.

100 feet road, Sector 3

A road which has been constructed recently has a good amount of length and width pretty appropriate for your morning walk or run. But make sure you are pretty careful here as a number of small and large vehicles come here on a daily basis. It would be better if you choose this road in the morning time only and not the evening time.

Monsoon has whizzed in to show the most beautiful side of the city and we are all set to explore all the corners of the city this season on our two and four-wheeler vehicles. We all are even too excited about all that already, aren’t we? But we have forgotten the fact that lately, the air quality of the city have been plunging downwards.

The above fact is justified by the Air Quality Index in Udaipur. Air quality index or AQI is a scale used by the government agencies to show the people of the city how polluted the air currently is in their area or how much it is going to be. The AQI is numbered from 0 to 500. Increase in the AQI is the indicator that the air around you is getting more polluted and that it will have an adverse effect on the health of a large number of people in the city.

There are a number of reasons why the AQI can increase in your city like rush traffic conditions, forest fire nearby, stagnant air caused by anticyclone, temperature inversion, low wind speeds that keep the air pollution in the local area, high concentrations of pollutants, chemical reactions between air contaminants and hazy conditions.

The National Air Quality Index or AQI was launched on September 17, 2014, in New Delhi under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. It covers 240 cities of the country including Udaipur. This air quality sensors are set up at four places in the city namely Pratap Nagar, Sukhadiya Circle, Surajpole and Hadi Rani Chouraha that covers an area of 3 to 5 km in the neighborhood.

How do the AQI works?

The AQI considers 8 air pollutants PM10, PM2.5, NO2, SO2, CO, O3, NH3, and Pb. The ambient concentrations, corresponding standards, and likely health impact are measured and based on that, a sub-index is calculated for each of these pollutants. The worst sub-index out of all of them reflects the overall AQI. Along with that, some health advice is suggested by the medical experts for the possible sufferers of the Air pollution.

Here’s what the number of the AQI says about its associated health impacts on people:

Good (0–50) – The air quality is excellent with minimal impact on anyone.

Satisfactory (51–100) – It is good. However, it may cause minor breathing discomfort to hypersensitive people.

Moderately polluted (101–200) – It may bring breathing discomfort to children, older adults, people with heart disease, and people with lung disease such as asthma.

Poor (201–300) – Serious conditions will occur for sensitive people. Heart and respiratory systems of healthy people may be affected. Prolonged exposure is not advised.

Very poor (301–400) – Healthy people will show symptoms, people with lungs and heart diseases will be significantly affected. It may cause respiratory illness to the people on prolonged exposure.

Severe (401–500) – Healthy people will experience reduced endurance in physical activities and may show strong symptoms and are severely prone to other illnesses. Elders and sick people are strongly advised to stay indoors and avoid any physical activities. Healthy individuals should avoid outdoor activities.

AQI in Udaipur

AQI in Udaipur shows that Air in Udaipur is moderately polluted. It is numbered from 100 to 105, varies at different parts of the city. The main pollutant is PM 10. This indicates that the air is harmful and may bring discomfort to children, elderly people and people with heart diseases and lung diseases such as asthma.

According to the figures released by Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board for 2018, the level of pollution in January 2018 in Madri Industrial Area, Ambamata, Townhall area and Delhigate was 291, 80, 123 and 328, respectively while in February it was 288, 115, 126 and 243. The figures for March 2018 were 254, 110, 165 and 203 whereas, for April 2018, they were 299, 101, 124 and 222. In May 2018, the level was 300, 80, 142 and 217. This shows that from February 2018 to May 2018, The Madri Industrial area of Udaipur was more polluted than Delhi. In the industrial area, the level is three times higher than normal that is extremely harmful to the inhabitants of these areas.

One main reason for air pollution in the city is the big number of autos and tempos. Their number in the town is over 5000, out of which the time limit of 1000 has already expired and they do not meet the pollution benchmark. Under the Swiss development funded project, the municipal corporation encouraged E-Rickshaws in the town. It was proposed to set up over 20 electrical charge plug boards at different places in the town and persuade people to sell diesel autos and rickshaws running in villages and buy e-rickshaws.

According to Dr. Shanti Lal Choubisa, Professor NIMS University, Jaipur and regional Editor International Flouride Journal, a research study of pollution in Aravali Hills has revealed that air pollution is increasing rapidly as there are several industries in this region that emit fluoride in addition to smoke.

Now that everything has been said, what are we waiting for? It is high time that we start thinking about it and mend our habits because if we keep doing what we are doing then it is only going to be worse. And unless any of us want to leave such environmental conditions for our future generation where they cannot even breathe properly then it would be appropriate to do something about it.

What can we do?

Here are some tips you should do to contribute in regaining the quality of air in the city.

Grow a habit of using public transport instead of taking your own vehicle, it will even save some of your bucks.
Choose walking over riding or driving, if your destination is around a km. It will directly reflect on your health.
Grow more trees, encourage your closed ones to do so too.
Have a keen eye on any source which is causing strong air pollution and contact authorities regarding that.
Stop burning garbage and stop anyone who is doing so.

Beware foodies! Khaugali is finally in town — Khaugali

The last few days have been amazing, firstly because of the weather and then because of the opening of a much-awaited spot for all the foodies in town. You guessed it right, Khaugali kicked off its operations, last week at Sukhadia circle with something amazing in store for each and every foodie.

Inaugurated on June 21 by the honorable Mayor of Udaipur, Khaugali is a concept brought about by Mr. Akshay Tiwari, which aims at bringing a clean, hygienic, and a better eating environment for every visitor. Khaugali has 15 different shops, all serving different varieties of food. According to Akshay, they have tried not to replicate cuisines at any two shops, resulting in a diversified menu and innumerable things for us to lay our forks on!

Khaugali will remain open from 12-noon to midnight every day. They also have a big space for children to play and are contemplating to start live monthly performances as well.

Let’s have a look at some of the shops here:

1. Ranaji Special

Seeing the increasing demand of the very popular chur-chur naan and dal makhani, Mr. Prashant Jain has decided to set-up shop in Khaugali as well. The main attractions would be, Chur-chur naan, Garlic and Cheese chur-chur naan with Paneer Haandi, Chana Masala, and other delicious dishes.

2. Aamchi Farsan

Big news for all the Gujarati and Maharashtrian food lovers in the city! Aamchi Farsan will be seen serving yummy Gujarati Farsan, Khaman Dhokla, Khandvi, Patra, and Maharashtrian dishes like Misal and Usal paav, Mumbaiya bhaji paav, etc.

This is probably going to be our favorite shop at Khaugali for now. They will be serving delightful Italian dishes like Pasta, Pizza, etc. along with, Pav bhaji, Chole bhature, Ice-creams, and packed beverages.

7. Ice & Spice

This shop will serve South Indian dishes and parathas. (opening soon!)

8. Chaifeteria

With 20+ different varieties of chai (tea), Chaifeteria is here to tickle your taste buds with yummy sandwiches, mocktails, and Maska buns.

9. Tera Mera Cake – Bread N Bites

After you have had all the piping hot and spicy food, you might want to give this kiosk a try! Tera Mera Cake is all set to give you a sugar-rush with their Thandai Cake, Cheese pastries, Apple pies, etc.

10. Tandoor and Roll Station

Techno NJR students win innovation prize

Team Slick of Techno NJR students won the First runner-up prize of Rs. 75,000/- in prestigious Smart India Hackathon 2018 Hardware version held at NIT, Trichy from June 18 to 22, 2018. 6 teams of Techno NJR were shortlisted for this event.

This 5-day event was conducted at 10 centers across the country at IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Guwahati, IISc Bangalore, IIT Roorkee, NIT Trichy CEERI, Pilani etc to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among engineering students and find solutions to real problems of India. This was in continuation of Smart India Hackathon software version which was held from March 30 to April 1, 2018. Techno NJR was one of the center for the software version.

Team slick consisting of students Lokesh Puri Goswami, Kunjpreet Arora, sayed Amir, Kunjal jain, Gaurav Suthar and Dharmendra Vaishnav of Civil and Mechanical branches created eco-friendly construction bricks and paver blocks out of waste materials like marble slurry, waste plastics etc and was appreciated by an eminent panel of judges. These bricks are called wricks These students had presented a research paper also last year at IIT, Mumbai and received first prize. Encouraged by the response at IIT, Mumbai these students decided to implement their research paper.

Disposal of marble slurry especially in Udaipur and other wastes in all cities is a major problem faced by most municipal authorities. This innovation can solve the problem of waste disposal in a profitable and eco-friendly way.

Udaipurites seem to be highly elated as Lake City has made tremendous progress in the recent Swaccha Bharat ratings. From last year’s ranking of 310 out of 434 cities, it has jumped up to be 85^th out of 485 cities this year. In Rajasthan also, it has jumped to the 2^nd position from 10^th. Only two cities of Rajasthan are there in the first 100 at a national level in cleanest cities – Udaipur and Jaipur.

State-wise, Rajasthan is at number 8 in the cleanest province in the nation with its two towns in the first 100 list. Jharkhand occupies the top position with its 9 cities in the top 100 while Maharashtra with 29 cities among top 100, Chhattisgarh with 7 towns in top 100 and Madhya Pradesh with its 19 cities among top 100 are placed second, third and fourth respectively. In the first phase of ranking on the basis of cleanliness 4203 big and small cities were evaluated. Small cities were divided into five groups. Those of Rajasthan were included in the west zone. Out of 4000 total marks for ranking, 1200 were allotted to documentation, 1400 to direct observation and 1400 to citizen feedback. The percentage of marks for ranking was: collection and transport – 30%, ODF – 30%, processing, and disposal – 25% and innovation, IEC, and capacity building got 5% marks each. In west zone, Jhalrapatan secured the first position in Rajasthan (102^nd in zone), Ratangarh got the second position in the state (115^th in zones, Dungarpur secured the third position in Rajasthan (126^th in zones) and Pratapgarh secured 4^th position in Rajasthan (153 in zone), Rajsamand and Banswara got 572nd 790^th position respectively. Among big cities, Chittorgarh was placed at the 323^rd position.

In the service level progress, an on-the-spot inspection was done by the swacchta survey on the basis of a document prepared by the municipal corporation. The city secured 564 marks out of 1400. The score was extremely low as compared to the marks given by the corporation itself. This may be due to negative marking under direct observation, the team from New Delhi visited railway station, bus stands, markets as lakes and took feedback. The score was 940 out of 1200. A lot has been done for cleaning the lakes. The corporation has made joint efforts with the railway and roadways authorities for cleanliness. Awareness among the public was also created. For citizen feedback, swacchata app was downloaded.

The corporation had made a large number of people download the app with the help of Parshads and had made full preparation for citizen feedback. The city was evaluated on the basis of the resolution of public complaints and the time taken by the employees of the corporation in doing so. Out of 4000, the city scored 1118.47 marks that is much higher than the average 1986.27 of Rajasthan and 1913 of the country.

The rank and score of some other small places of Udaipur division were: Salumber 445 with 2003 marks, Fatehsagar 779 with 1407 marks, Bhindar 796 with 1352 marks, Kanode 847 with 1456 marks.

The positive factors that contributed to the good rank included the declaration of city as ODF, launch of door-to-door collection of garbage is good progress in solid waste disposal, use of AP, public awareness about the campaign, fixing up of targets of work, effective presentation of the work done, focus on regular cleaning increase in the number of trippers and biometric attendance of workers.

Some weak areas included the lack of proper functioning of online services such as building permission and collection of urban development. The city doesn’t have a proper system of solid waste management as good bidders are not available. Due to lack of public awareness hoardings and banners are placed in wrong spots. There are no toilets at several places. The existing ones are not properly maintained. No decentralized system exists for transport and segregation of garbage. The number of trippers has to be increased and the public should learn to use the services of trippers and dustbins.

In the opinion of the municipal commissioner, Siddharth Sihag, the city deserved to be among the top 20 in the country. The city has done well in spite of the fact that it lacks proper transport, solid waste management, and door-to-door garbage collection facilities. He appreciates the contribution of the public and his team City Mayor, Chandra Singh Kothari says that the corporation analyzed the weaknesses and then worked on them. The focus was on coming up to standards laid down for evaluation. The huge public support has been a big positive factor in getting good ranking.

In the ranking under Rajasthan health programme, Udaipur has secured 9^th position in the state. The areas included in the ranking done for the first time are child health, maternity health, prevention of diseases, patient feedback, family planning, seasonal diseases, vaccination, safe delivery, waterborne diseases, leprosy, TB, etc. The marks allotted for evaluation were: Input-25, Intermediate-50, output-25. On the basis of this evaluation, the first ten districts were marked green, the next ten were marked yellow and the last ten as red. In all the programmes, there were cut off benchmarks and the districts that did not meet the benchmark and the districts that did not meet the benchmark in each head were given zero marks.

Udaipur got high marks in disease control. The performance in child health care was also good. Out of 58 PHCs, only one gave feedback. The weak areas were maternal health, sterilization, and delivery system. The first ten districts in order of merit were: Sikar, Ajmer, Sriganganagar, Bhilwara, Kota, Rajsamand, Junjhunu, Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Chittorgarh.

The aim of the programme, according to medical and health department, is to generate healthy competition and improve performance in weak areas.

In the opinion of Dr. Sanjeev Tank, CMHO, Udaipur the aim of the district is to rise to the top rank, weak areas would be strengthened with hard work. This year the district was not able to do well due to lack of proper data entry. The patient feed was also a weak area. In disease control, the performance was good. All the officers would now be able to perform better as their ranking in the programme would be made available on the desktop.

137 साल पुराना गुलाब बाग़, जहाँ शहर के बड़े-बुज़ुर्ग आज भी अपना बचपन तलाशते हैं।

सुबह के 5:00 बजे होंगे। शहर के उपनगरीय क्षेत्रों के घरों में बजते अलार्म, सुबह की गहरी-मीठी नींद में सोते लोगों के हाथों से बंद कर दिए जा रहे थे। कुछ इक्के-दुक्कों को छोड़ दिया जाए तो हिरन-मगरी अभी भी सो ही रहा था। लेकिन यहाँ से 5 किलोमीटर दूर शहर के बीचों-बीच क़रीब 100 एकड़ में फैला लगभग 137 वर्ष बूढ़ा बाग़ अपने अन्दर लगे बड़े-बड़े पेड़ों में से एक अलग ही ज़िन्दगी को झाँक रहा था, जो उदयपुर शहर के बाहर बसी जिंदगियों से बहुत अलग थी। मैं वहाँ 15 मिनिट में पहुँच गया। घड़ी में 5:15 बज रहे होंगे लेकिन मैं तब भी लेट था।

वहाँ आए एक-आध लोगों से बात करने पर पता चला कि उनकी सुबह तो कब की हो चुकी है। कोई अकेला गुलाब बाग़ के चक्कर लगा रहा था, कोई किसी अपने का हाथ पकड़ क़दमों की ताल को बांधे हुए था, तो कोई ग्रुप में बैठे अपने स्कूल/कॉलेज के दिनों को याद कर गुलाब बाग़ में अपने बचपन को तलाश रहा था।

अगर आपको असली उदयपुर देखना है तो यहाँ आइए। मुझे पूरी उम्मीद है यहाँ दिखने वाले दृश्यों को आप शायद ही कभी भुला पाएंगे। इन बूढ़े पेड़ों और लुप्त होते गुलाबों, जिनकी वजह से इसका नाम गुलाब बाग़ पड़ा था, उदयपुर की पहचान बचाने की पूरी कोशिश कर रहा है। आम और जामुनों के पेड़ों के नीचें लगी बेंचों पर बुज़ुर्ग अपनी महफ़िल जमाते हुए नज़र आ जाते हैं, इन्टरनेट की दुनिया से बिलकुल एक अलग दुनिया की बातें करते। वह दुनिया जिसे हम यंग्सटर्स कभी की भुला चुकें है।

हालाँकि कुछ नयी जिंदगियां यहाँ नज़र ज़रूर आती हैं लेकिन वो भी दौड़ती हुई, बस। हम सभी दौड़ रहे हैं, न जाने किस चीज़ की तलाश में? अगर कोई रुकता भी तो बस हाफ़ने भर के लिए और एक सांस भर फिर से दौड़ पड़ता है।

गुलाब बाग़ वहीँ रहे, ऐसी उम्मीद करता हूँ। वहाँ चलती महफ़िलें कभी लुप्त ना हो, जैसे गुलाब बाग़ से गुलाब लुप्त हो चुकें है। अब वो सिर्फ् एक बाग़ बनता जा रहा है।
