5 Things that will make Udaipur the Ultimate Tourist Destination

Udaipur has always been famous as a tourist destination thanks to its serenity and natural beauty. Obviously, it is the most beautiful city on the planet.

But yes, as they say, there is always a space for improvement. There are certain things that can make udaipur the ultimate travel destination. These things when fulfilled, will surely help the tourist flow to this Awesome City.

1. Water Park/Amusement Park:

Setting Up A Successful Water Park In India - Arihant Waterslides

Be it the Essel world of Mumbai or Wonder La of Bengaluru, these have always been in the places that tourist include in their must visit list. So how about a amusement park or a Water Park in our city. This will attract the tourists for sure and also give a new place to the local people as well as the tourists.

2. A Cool Official Website:

website of udaipur
Poorest Website of Beautiful Udaipur we could ever have. Screenshot of: udaipur.rajasthan.gov.in, Atleast correct the spelling of “Website”

While planning for vacations, the tourists definitely searches for places on the Internet. They will research about the place they are visiting, especially the ones from outside India. So Udaipur must have cool, official website with plenty of photographs.

(P.S.: While reviewing about this point on Internet, we just found that the official website of Udaipur has shifted to : udaipur.rajasthan.gov.in , We won’t take a minute to admit that It is the worst site we can ever have!!  Is it seriously the website for the World’s Tourist Hub? We hope that the officials read this post and work for better alluring website.)

3. Adventure Activities:

Like we love having variety in our lunch/dinner, tourists visiting will definitely require a variety in the places they are visiting. Adventure sports will always work as a great option for them. Also Udaipur has that potential to develop Adventure Sports as it is surrounded by many mountains and water streams. We seek our local government to work over this new class of Adventure Tourim.

4. International Flights:

International-flights-to-udaipur
Photo via: http://www.iranjourney.com/

Foreigners visiting Rajasthan may prefer Jaipur over Rajasthan the simple reason being better connectivity. No direct flights or even a stop, has been a negative point for Udaipur. If the number of International Flights are increased, the foreign tourists visiting will also increase as being directly proportional.

5. Night Life

nightlife in udaipur
Photo via: tom-horton.co.uk

Udaipur lacks way behind in the field of Night Life. Our city has zero night life with no clubs, discos or places to Eat. Development of good pubs and discos can change city’s Night Life condition. This will surely attract more tourists and allow them to enjoy their Journey in Udaipur.

Also better Local transport and cleanliness will leave a soft corner for our city among tourists which will attract them towards our city again. These 5 are the major things that need to be taken care of for development of Udaipur as the Ultimate Tourist Destination and therefore going higher in the Tourist’s rankings.

We Hope our Government and Businessmen from Udaipur come up to enhance the present Status.

Dal, Baati and Churma!

When Comfort Food Calls, It’s Dal Baati Churma On The Menu!

Rajasthan is famous all over the world for its tradition and culture. it itself create their own identity on everyone’s heart. This land is the combination of culture, monuments and food. the land of ‘braves’ is not only famous for their war stories but also famous for their cuisine and spices. One of the dishes which is famous as Rajasthani food is dal baati churma. This dish is the part of every Rajasthani’s soul and the soul is undestroyable according to Hindu mythology and so is this recipe. Baatis are round balls of bread made of wheat flour which are cooked over coal or oven. After that, each second is counted as thousand years for the one who is craving for it and finally when it is cooked these beautiful brown balls are pushed into the pool of ghee before decorating it on the plate.

On the other hand, five different types of lentils are united i.e. urad, moong, chana, arhar, moth to make delicious ‘Panchmel dal’. Ghee is the key ingredient in this delicacy which is heated in a pan accompanied by cumin seeds until it’s spluttered then cloves cardamoms, asafoetida, turmeric powder, salt, garam masala, chopped tomatoes and red chillies completes tadka part of the cuisine. Then this gorgeous preparation is served to hungry people like me with spicy garlic and sweet guava chutney. The first bite reminded me of my grandmother whose last wish was to have dal baati and after having this I’m sure she died in peace.

Few bites and couples of tears later it was time to reveal the best part which surely is every part of the dish but slightly over-privileged because it’s sweet yes ladies and gentleman I’m talking about churma. While baatis were dissolving in my mouth with the memories of my grandmother few of baaties were abducted by the chefs and was crumbled and poured with ghee and powdered jaggery. Here comes the best part of the love story when spiciness meets up its love sweetness in my mouth where even I started falling for churma and I prayed it should never go out of stock in my plate.

So where did Baati really originate? This little wheat globe made of wheat, ghee and camel milk was first mentioned during the time of Bappa Rawal the founder of the kingdom of Mewar in Rajasthan and then spread across the northern region.

It is believed that the Rajput soldiers would break the dough into chunks and leave it buried under thin layers of sand to bake under the sun. On their return from the battlefield, they would dig out the perfectly baked baatis that was then slathered with ghee and consumed with curd made from goat or camel milk. It was later, when traders from the Gupta Empire settled in Mewar, that the combination of dal and Baati became popular – Panchmel Dal was a much-loved favourite in the royal court of the Guptas.

Churma, on the other hand, is believed to have been invented when a cook of Mewar’s Guhilot clan accidentally poured sugarcane juice into some baatis. Realising that it had made the baati softer, the women of the clan started dunking the battis in sweet water (made from sugarcane or jaggery) in an attempt to keep the baatis soft and fresh for their husbands. This eventually evolved into churma,  a sweetened and cardamom-flavoured mix of crushed baati.

The history remains and for sure this traditional recipe is preciously taken forward and beautifully updated and craze for this cuisine isn’t limited to Rajasthan but in other parts of the country as well developing the taste buds for this. Also, this isn’t going easy on your pocket but who cares when you are getting gold and platinum served on your plate. We are proud to say that we live in a country where tradition can be tasted.

Already savouring the delicious taste of dal, baati and churma? Do  review us at udaipurblog.com.

About Fatehsagar

Fatehsagar – Where Every Sunset And Sunrise Tell a Story!

Fatehsagar Lake Udaipur, Fateh Sagar Lake Udaipur, FS, Photo Gallery of Fateh sagar, City of Lakes Udaipur, Lakes in Udaipur.

Considered as the Pride of Udaipur, Fateh Sagar is one of the prominent lakes of Lake City and is also a must visit destination for every traveller. Sited to the north-west of Udaipur and rambling over a stretch of 2.4 km, lies the sparkling lake, Fateh Sagar, which is one of the major tourist spots in the city. It is the second largest artificial lake surrounded by the Aravalli Hills and known for its scenic beauty, is one of its kind. The pear-shaped lake is walled by the Aravallis on three sides having a straight gravity stone masonry dam on its eastern side which has a spillway to discharge flood flows during the monsoon season. The blue waters of the lake and the backdrop of the green mountains present captivating scenery. One can behold the circumference of Fateh Sagar Lake by driving around its periphery and get a fantastic view of the entire lake. The entire circumference of the lake could be covered by road via Moti Magri Road, Fateh Sagar Drive, Rani Road and witnessing the Rajiv Gandhi park, Sanjay park and the winding road on the eastern route to get a picturesque view of the lake, and the Aravali Hills surrounding it

The North-eastern embankment is known as the ‘Pal’ and is usually known as the “Heart of Udaipur” by the city people. Pal is also the place for morning-evening walks by locals while travellers love experiencing a serene lake view walk on the long stretched pathway . The lake is a prime location for the youth of the city and gets flocked with people of all ages every evening.

Fateh Sagar is 1.6 km wide and 11.5 meter in depth. During monsoons, the lake covers a total area of around 1 sq. km. The lake is primarily filled by Swaroop sagar link channel at the southern end and Madar channel on the north-eastern end. The runoff emerging from surrounding hills drains into nearby smaller lakes such as Sisarma, Madar, Nandeshwar, etc and from where the water is channelized through a systematic network of water streams. The lake’s excess water is accelerated to Udaisagar, from overflow section on the eastern side masonry dam during monsoons.

The lake comprises of three small islands. The largest of the three is the garden islands, known as Nehru Park, which no holidaymaker should ever miss to visit. The central attraction of Nehru Park, is the boat shaped café, which is the hot favorite amongst those who love to sip coffee and snacks, as they take in the reigning tranquility and serenity of the place. The second island houses Udaipur Solar Observatory which is the best solar observatory in Asia however it is not a visitor’s place. It is considered a prime site for obtaining good solar images because of its secluded location with clear skies above and clear waters below it. The smallest island though do not provide a visiting site however gives support to a jet fountain which adds further to the charm of this lake.

Fateh Sagar Lake is also highly preferred for hosting big and small, national and international events in the town. One of the most awaited events that is held every year at ‘Fatehsagar Pal’ is the World Music Festival, which is a three-day celebration of music and voice. Generally held during the month of February, you can witness mind-boggling performances by national and international artists. From poems to soul-stirring instrumentals, one can easily find one’s kind of music here. Besides, Udaipur flower show is again another event which is a flower and plants exhibition that showcases wide variety of flora all around the world. The event is held in the month of December every year when there is a swarming of domestic and international tourists

Another important festival held at the Fateh Sagar Lake is the Hariyali Amavasya Mela, which sees a great footfall of locals and rural folks from nearby regions every year. Also known as the ‘Green New Moon Fair’, this celebration is held during the Hindu month of Shravan or August/September. With the onset of monsoon this colorful festival is celebrated over a two days course ,at Fatehsagar and the nearby places. Fun, festivities and frolic mark the cultural celebrations that are held to welcome the rains.

History –

Fateh Sagar Lake was initially constructed by Maharana Jai Singh in 1678 AD. However, after a span of 200 years, the earthen bund, which formed the lake, was washed away during floods, thereby razing the lake. Thereafter, Maharana Fateh Singh built the Connaught Dam on the Lake to mark the visit of Duke of Connaught, son of Queen Victoria in 1888 AD. The dam enlarged the lake and was later renamed as Fateh Sagar Lake.

Historic Fatehsagar

Before independence, the water from this lake was hardly used for any purpose and it remained more or less full throughout the year. The lake and the three islands, that were full of vegetation, were home to a large variety of flora and fauna like aquatic birds, waders, pythons, otters, crocodiles and many species of fishes. There were strict restrictions on fishing. The human interference was restricted to bathing and washing of clothes and that too in a limited area. Apart from this, there were numerous trees at the periphery of the lake.

After independence, the trees at the edge of the lake were chopped off. Government allotted contract for killing of crocodiles in early fifties. Government introduced fish contractors and it resulted in considerable depletion of fish fauna. The islands were developed into tourist spots. Several marshy places with reeds and other types of aquatic fauna and flora vanished. Residential houses came up around this lake and human interference increased, thus resulting in an increase in the usage of water from the lake and pollution.

Due to over exploitation of the lake, it came on the brink of drying many times and in the year 2003, the lake dried entirely for the first time. However, the lake has continued to replenish over the years.
