Are We Letting the #SocialTrends Fool us? | UB Editorial

What’s the first thing you do every morning? I am sure many of you would have the same answer. As far as mine is concerned, I guiltily check my phone to look for messages, updates, peeking into someone’s life, so on and so forth. Sometimes, it leaves me pondering how smoothly social networking sites are aligning with our lives. Having said that, it doesn’t come as a surprise that we spend an average of two hours daily sharing, liking, tweeting and updating on these platforms, according to some reports.

But that is not the biggest concern right now, there’s more to it. This brings us to our today’s topic. Are we letting the social trends fool us?

Social Trends? Whaaaa…

My entire wall is flooded with people sharing their 10 years old picture along with their current one side by side depicting how they used to look versus how they look now under the new trend #10yearchallenge. Meanwhile, this challenge was getting viral, an ordinary picture of a huge egg made entry into the social world. And besides that, nobody has yet forgotten the kiki challenge, right? With many such trends getting viral, the 10 year challenge didn’t surprise any of us. Did it? Rather we tend to enjoy these challenges or trends and participate in them vigorously. Now you would ask, what’s wrong in them. I am saying none. But let’s get deep into some facts here.

Source: Wired

While the #10yearchallenge seems to be a harmless meme on Facebook, a conspiracy theory suggested that the challenge could actually be a bit minacious. An article on ‘Wired’ suggested that the data collected during the 10 year challenge could be used to train Artificial Intelligence. In this article, Kate writes –

“Imagine that you wanted to train a facial recognition algorithm on age-related characteristics and, more specifically, on age progression (e.g., how people are likely to look as they get older).

Ideally, you’d want a broad and rigorous dataset with lots of people’s pictures. It would help if you knew they were taken a fixed number of years apart—say, 10 years.”

Facebook was quick to post a comeback to the theory which also got viral. Here’s what Facebook said –

“The 10 year challenge is a user-generated meme that started on its own, without our involvement. It’s evidence of the fun people have on Facebook, and that’s it.”

Mumbai police puts up a Billboard against Kiki challenge | Source: Indian Express

Now let’s get down to the Kiki challenge. Do I even need to start about it? The challenge itself was very unsafe and dangerous, to begin with. It involved people stepping out of their slow-moving cars and perform a dance that syncs to the lyrics of the popular song ‘In my feelings’. The fails to this challenge resulted in accidents which were also shared under the so-called ‘humor’. Don’t believe me? Look at this video below.

These trends are not always pointless. Some of them are actually initiated for a noble cause. To justify the statement, I would give the example of trends such as No Shave November or the ice bucket challenge. But even these trends go in vain when the people participating in these challenges lose its intent and rather seek social attention and the thrill it has to offer.

While on the other hand, few people acting dumb are taking over the social platforms. It seems like people are actually enjoying their dumbness or rather smartness in this meme world. For instance, a girl from Uttar Pradesh simply became popular on YouTube and later on the Indian Television by singing some pointless songs picking words such as Selfie, Daaru, Swag, etc. Another Pune based Vlogger who got immense fame on the internet for his hilarious videotaped antics who also claimed his marriage with the Bollywood actress famous for her item numbers. This brings us to the age-old Bollywood actress, Rakhi Sawant who has been popular lately in media for all the wrong reasons. And then there are countless such people on the internet, rather Instagram who have been getting fame for their inane actions such as…..you already know them, don’t you?

But that is not their problem, that is actually ours. We have denied ourselves with the liberty of choosing what we feed to our minds. Under the name of entertainment, we are simply spending our valued time on these absurd social trends, sometimes mocking all those people who had put in their hard work to reach to that position, or most of the times being a part of someone’s marketing campaign. We are still blind to the fact that we possess the power to make or break these social trends.

So, what are we going to do about this? What are you going to do about this? I will conclude this article with an open thread so that you can explore what you really want to do about it. It’s your decision to make, not mine.

TTYL!

Update Your Mattress Collection This Winter Season

Imagine, after a hard day at work where you have been literally sweating it out all day, you finally come home, and when you go to bed, you realize that the mattress is missing. How will you feel? That is exactly the moment when you will realize how important it is to have a mattress on your bed. A bed without a mattress is an absolute incomplete, yes. There are different types of mattresses that are available in the market today. You can buy a mattress online as well as offline by visiting a physical store.

A mattress is basically a fabric cover which is filled with some type of material. This material can be soft, hard, or something like spring. Which mattress is best for you depends on your health or your choice. The one on which you can sleep peacefully without feeling any type of body pain the next day is the best mattress for you.

There are different types of mattresses to choose from such as:

  • Open Spring Mattress: This type of mattress is also known as the open coil mattress or even a continuous coil mattress. Under this, the cover consists of a long metal wire which is being coiled into a number of springs. An additional border road is being used to shape the mattress and give it the right form.
  • Memory Foam Mattress: These are a modern type of mattresses that are basically made up of memory foam. The plus point is that it is not only responsive to weight but also to temperature. A super good choice for those who usually suffer from a backache as it is known for maintaining body posture.
  • Latex Mattress: If you believe in buying durable mattresses, then Latex mattress is the correct choice. This one is filled with latex foam and is beneficial for those who are suffering from Asthma or some kind of allergy.
  • Pocket Spring Mattress: If you are looking for a luxurious type of mattress, then this may be the right choice for you. This one is made up of a number of individual springs that are small in size. This is the reason that it is more supportive than the other mattresses available.

You can buy a mattress online that are available according to the season. With the winters going on, you obviously wouldn’t want to wait for your mattress to get warm. Instead, it should be something that can maintain the temperature.

Mattress for Winter Season

While the summer mattress present in the market usually consists of material that is according to the season and doesn’t get warm-up, mattresses for winter season usually consists of material such as wool that helps in keeping the bed warm. Did you know that sleeping on a cold mattress in winter can lead to symptoms of Fibromyalgia or Arthritis? Sleeping on a cold mattress is not good as it will not only disturb your sleep but might also leave you frustrated. So, this time when you select beds online, don’t forget to choose the right mattress online too.

12 Resolutions that Authority in Udaipur Should Take this New Year

New Year doesn’t assure any novelty or changes around you but it definitely comes with new hope and lots of expectations. Now that we bid adios to the year 2018 and welcome the year 2019, there are a lot of changes and developments that we as a citizen of Udaipur would like to see in the city. Below is the list of those 12 resolutions that authority needs to take in Udaipur this New Year which will lead to a better future for the citizens in Udaipur.

Better Road conditions

Source: thehindu

This has been an all-time problem for the Udaipurites, no matter what the season is. Uneven roads, potholes, and dry dust covering your face while you drive leads to frequent accidents. Not just that, but it also results in long traffic jams creating an improper traffic structure in the city. Which leads us to our next point.

Organized traffic structure

Source: khas Khabar

It seems like there is a season of following the traffic rules. During some part of the year, wearing a helmet would be necessary or you would be fined and during some part, even the traffic lights won’t work properly. It creates an irregularity in the traffic structure of the city which ultimately makes a citizen think it is okay if he breaks the rule.

Lake conservation and cleaning

Source: UdaipurTimes

If you observe carefully, our city is unimaginably beautiful. Not just in pictures but also in reality. All it needs is proper attention, maintenance, and regular cleaning. Just cleaning the lakes would immensely add up to the above statement. Lakes such as Lake Pichola, Lake Fatehsagar, Lake Doodhtalai, etc. all have the same story. If our Lakes itself isn’t clean, then there’s no point of dreaming the city to be like Venice.

Taking care of the tourist attraction points

Source: allevents

Tourism is one of the major income generating sources for the city. Thus it is very important to maintain them and add to their beauty. The tourist attraction points don’t just end up on prominent places but also the heritage and cultural festivals which boost up the tourism rate in the city. Maintaining the beauty of the places and adding up more festivals and programs such as Lake Festival and Shilpgram festival would definitely attract more tourists in the upcoming year.

An ideal clean city – Udaipur

Source: Shivangi Reviews

To discuss this point, I would want to take an example of the city of Indore which is being considered as the cleanest city in the country. The municipal corporation in Indore has adopted some smart ways that have changed the way garbage was hitherto disposed in the city. These methods included door-to-door garbage collection and night cleaning which were very effective in reducing littering on the road.

Flyover construction

Source: Udaipur News

The news of a flyover being constructed in the city has been in air from quite a long time now. Still, it is very difficult to say when it will be constructed. The list of resolution for the year 2019 should definitely be added with the point.

Implementation of No vehicle zone

Source: udaipur Magic Tour

Currently, there is only one ‘No vehicle zone’ in the city which is at Fatehsagar paal. It really made a great leisure spot for all the citizens without any traffic hassle. More such ‘No vehicle zones’ should be added especially where there are narrow roads and more traffic such as ‘Old City’ area, etc.

Promoting Nightlife in the city

Source: VideoBlocks

Nightlife is a major void when it comes to the city of Udaipur. After 10:00 pm, the entire city gets closed down resulting in zero nightlife. To promote the same, strict security system should be implemented along with festivals and programs to promote nightlife in the city.

Preserving the Heritage of Udaipur

Source: Pinterest

While we are in Udaipur, one thing is for sure that we would be completely surrounded by Heritage sites. But it is aptly said that with great power comes great responsibility. And so it is necessary that proper attention and care is given to the heritage sites of the city which is quite lacking in the city. For example, Gangaur Ghat and even the Ambrai Ghat, both of which offers a breathtaking view of the city, is all messed up. People come here to wash their clothes or to bathe. Some measures should be taken against issues like such.

Smart City – Public Wifi Zone

Source: India Today

It shouldn’t be just in the name but also in the actions. Smart city Udaipur should be equipped with smart actions and facilities that can help the citizens. And one of such smart move can be creating wifi zones in the public areas.

Development in the outskirts of the city

Source: TripAdvisor

It looks like, amidst the attention given to the tourist spots and the city area, the outskirt area of the city is often being forgotten. No development can be seen in those areas as such and the maintenance as well is not taken care of. The major examples of these areas are Rampura Chouraha, Pratapnagar, etc.

Animal security and control

Source: Travels Of A Bookpacker

Cows sitting on the roads, stray dogs disturbing the chores of people, pigs, and horses finding a place to live, these issues in the city create an imbalance between animals and people. These animals should be assigned a proper place to live where they are not injured by the fast-moving vehicles on the road and rather be taken care of with food and a healthy living environment.

With the above 12 resolutions for the authority, we hope this New Year shall be happy for the city as well as you.

What changes do you wish to see in the city this year? Share in the comment section below and let your voice be heard.

Udaipur is all soaked up in the colors of big fat royal weddings this season. The much-hyped pre-wedding celebration of Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal is on the tongue of every Indian. And if we get any time to think about something else, it is just going to be the wedding celebration of Bollywood diva Priyanka Chopra and the stunning Nick Jonas which took place in Jodhpur. But do you know who is behind the mind-boggling audio and lighting setup of these wedding celebrations?

The company which is behind the astonishing setup of these grand weddings is MEGA SOUND from Udaipur.

Mega Sound

Mega sound was established in the year 1997. From the past many years, it has provided sound and light setups for prestigious shows, live concerts, corporate events, fashion shows, and extravagant big fat weddings. Based in Udaipur and Ahmedabad, the company has been taking responsibilities of many notable and grand events some of which are the recent Isha-Anand and Priyanka-Nick’s wedding event.

Beyonce performing in Isha-Anand Pre-wedding celebration

“Mega Sound took the entire responsibility for sound and light set up of both of these high profile weddings which were a huge task in itself because of the high profile guest list and challenging schedule as well as technicalities. Isha-Anand wedding celebration witnessed many national and international artists including Beyonce. The challenge was to deliver a phenomenal sound quality that can satisfy the international clients within given the short time duration.” said Mr. Siddharth Chouhan, Managing Director of Mega Sound.

Mr. Vishrut V Joshi, Chief Audio Designer of Mega Sound took the entire responsibility of managing both the event with perfection.

Top view of City Palace

He says “We designed the entire audio setup for artists like Beyonce and Nick Jonas. Honestly, it was tough. Since Beyonce is a brand in herself and we had to be very precise with her requirements. Her team was very particular about the sound settings and why wouldn’t they be. Her Audio designer Aroon Voortman had worked in festivals such as
Tomorrowland. With all the challenging audio designing, in the end, they were satisfied with our design and work. We covered the entire city palace complex with the sonic sound quality and delivered uniform sound throughout the venue.”

What all equipment was needed in these grand setups?

We deployed around 90 speakers throughout the City Palace with long audio feeds to give an exceptional sound to all the guests. All the equipment was unmistakably backed up in case the main power fails.

The main Speaker for Beyonce was 4 Rigs of L-Acoustics K2 system with KS28 Subs with Kara as Downfill and front fills, Arcs II was used for extreme outfills to fill up the gaps. All system was driven by L-Acoustics LA12X Amplification.

Apart from that, somewhere around 50+ DPA and AKG microphones were used for the symphony orchestra. Rajesh Kumawat, the stage technical engineer was responsible for the placement of microphone for dedicated instruments and Mr. Vanshaj Sharma took the entire responsibility of mix the Symphony orchestra on DiGICO Desk.

Setup by Team Beyonce

The Sound of after party at Zenana Mahal was managed by Ranjit Singh Rathore and our Light Designer Mr. Vinay Sharma from Ananta Stagecraft who was responsible for giving a blasting musical and lighting experience to the guests. The after party was planned in Zenana Mahal with Bollywood singers such as Sukhbir Singh and DJ Aman Nagpal. The after party was a challenge as the venue was completely packed. Here, Ranjit deployed the distributed system with main hangs of L-Acoustics K2 and distributed fills. The center place was covered by a speaker to give a feeling that of a nightclub. The center part was a bit tough as the stage was too low to it and was fired from sides with measured height, and was successfully achieved with 110 DB level over the entire Zenana Mahal and made everyone groove till the morning light.

About the owner

Mr. Siddharth Chauhan, director of Mega Sound, found his passion for sound in 1997 with the limited inventory and small shows. He believes in teamwork and keeps his faith in his staff members and motivates them regularly to achieve the best. The team member of MEGA SOUND denotes him as “HEART OF COMPANY & MR. PERFECTIONIST”

Vishrut V Joshi – Who chose a road less taken

Vishrut V Joshi is the Chief audio system designer and mix engineer. He says “since childhood, I had less interest in studies. And as I grew, I felt unhappy with the direction I was going towards and so, I chose the field that makes me happy and found passion in a field which is not even known by several people. My boss, who is known as Mr. Perfectionist became my Leader & Mentor and I decided to work hard and drag my potential & energy to match the level of perfection with him (Mr. Siddharth Chauhan). My sole goal became to make him feel proud & to achieve international recognition of Mega Sound. I’ve been into this field from past 8 Years and worked with major Bollywood and Hollywood artist such as Beyonce, Ellie Goulding, Hardwell and shows like FILMFARE, IIFA, Sunburn, Coke Studio, AR Rehman and so on.

Audio is a very important part of an event, and so every day, every event is a new challenge. Sometimes, it takes sleepless nights and 24×7 working duration but it was only my passion that kept me going and overcome every challenge that came in my way. I love to be called as #SOUNDGUYVISHRUT because Sound is something that means everything to me.”
