It might seem a bit overrated and ordinary but you cannot imagine how many stories they have to offer you. They belong to a time when the internet didn’t even exist so instead of investing their time on the internet, they have created some unforgettable stories that are worth a lifetime. At the end of all this you will realize that these folks can be interesting too.

Go through your old ‘physical’ photo albums

When digitalization didn’t overtake the reality, your parents and even your grandparents used to store the moments of your childhood in photo albums. Those were the times when clicking and getting photos printed had a cost and so you won’t see repetitive photos there with different poses. These photos will either make you shy and embarrassed about how you used to look or it is possible that you end up calling your childhood self cute. Either way, you will have a great time.

Go shopping

Cut some slack to window shopping for a bit and actually go out to buy something good for you and your loved ones. And while we are talking about that, you could try shopping at ‘The Celebration Mall’ since it is offering flat 50% off on huge brands like AND, Iconic, Levi’s, UCB, Wrangler, etc. Isn’t it a happy coincidence?

Dial to an old friend

If you just can’t stop yourself from checking your phone repeatedly and getting disappointed because there’s no notification or text, then either you can keep doing it for the entire day and wait for the turtle time to pass or you can dial an old friend. It may seem weird or awkward calling someone out of the blue but trust me you will get out the zone. You will feel a hell lot of nostalgia while recalling the time that you spent and the fun you had together. You never know what you might end up with.

World Environment Day 2018 | Let Us Read What the Experts Have to Say

Fortunately for us, nature has blessed Udaipur region with abundant water resources in the form of several huge lustrous lakes such as Pichola, Fateh Sagar, Udaisagar, Rajsamand and Jaisamand and rivers like Ayad, Berach, Som, Jawai, and Sabarmati. Udaipur is surrounded by the hills of Aravali ranges of different heights such as Nimach Mata, Bhuwana, Balicha, Odi, Eklinglji, Chorbavari, thoria, Machla Magra and Sajjangarh. In addition to this, there are several small lakes and baris(stepwells) and kunds. There are wildlife sanctuaries such as Sajjangarh, Jaisamand, Phulwara Ki Nav, Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary, Sitamata Sanctuary. It is the only area that has both a biological park (Sajjangarh) and a biodiversity park (Amberi).

All these places are home to a huge variety of fauna and flora. In addition to these, the city has two big gardens viz Gulab Bagh and Saheliyo Ki Bari.

These natural resources are not only sources of sustenance of Udaipurites but also attract a lot of tourists both inland and foreign. In turn, it becomes our duty to save the environment.

According to S.K Verma, former IFS, the crisis has been caused due to rapid urbanization that is the outcome of some important factors such as natural increase of population as was the inclusion of adjoining rural areas of nearby villages. The migration s due to many activities of mining manufacturing trading etc. that attract rural people seeking jobs and availability of opportunities for good education and better living conditions in urban areas.

Environment degradation is basically caused due to fragments or pieces of work an at times even work at cross purpose, giving rise to further complications in conservation and use of land, forests, grazing land, water bodies and environment. Things become worse when the public joins the neglect and misuse of lakes system, and air water and noise pollution. Eco-friendly architecture is being replaced with multistoried complexes that are becoming heat islands.

In the master places of the city terms such as biodiversity sustainability and conservation of spaces habitats for biodiversity are yet to find a meaningful place. The impact is obvious – air toxicity is causing health hazards, groundwater is being used thoughtlessly, forests are decreasing fast, heat islands are multiplying, migratory birds are giving Udaipur a miss and animals like the Panthers are being killed when they come to human habitats in search of water and food.

According to Prof. NS Solanki Agro metrology dept. Rajasthan College of Agriculture Udaipur as in other parts of the country and the world, global warming is having an adverse impact on the pattern of the monsoon in Mewar- Vagad Region. A survey of monsoon in 30 years has revealed that monsoon in this area is being delayed by 14 hours every year and thus in the last 30 years by about 20 days. Before 30 years rains used to start between 15 and 19 June. Then the monsoon arrived on 25 or 26 June. If this trend continues, after 30 years would come in August. The rainy days in the southwest monsoon season from June t September that used to be 21.9 between 1961 and 1990 have come down to only 17.6 now. The number of non-seasonal rainy days has increased. all this affects the crops adversity. If the preservation of the environment is not taken seriously crop pattern would have an extremely adverse effect.

Source: pinterest

There are several ways in which global warming and pollution can be controlled. People traveling to the same place carpooling to reduce air pollution public transport and not personal cars should be used. Cloth bags can be used in place of plastic ones. Planting saplings to keep the earth green is a useful way. Rainwater harvesting is also an effective way to solve water. There are several measures to reduce CO2 emission and reduce electricity bills such as switching to CFL, LED bulbs, using a table lamp while studying for provides more effective lighting; going out to play for a couple of hours every day instead of watching TV or computer. Switching from a desktop to laptop, turning off lights and fans at the plug point when not in use.

Use of energy efficient electrical appliances such as frost-free refrigerator, split air conditioner and solar water heater would help. To reduce unnecessary use of microwave oven it is better to eat together. To save trees it is advisable to minimize the use of paper by using one side paper and passing on used textbooks. It is better to switch all the off ignition at traffic lights and inflate vehicle tyres regularly.

The common man should become aware of the hazards of not conserving the environment and contribute in various big and small ways of preserving it.

You are a true back bencher if you have bunked at these places in Udaipur

The first thing that comes up in our minds whenever we think about the time back when we were in our school and college is the time when we bunked our classes. Just a mere thought about it takes us to those times with our now long lost friends. The fun we had, the places we visited, the friends we had, everything. And sometimes when we were not lucky enough, we even got caught. At the time being it was a horrible thing but now that we think about it again it just brings a smile to our face.

While all of us always say that Udaipur is very small, the city has never stopped amazing us with the number of places that it has. Most of us were smart enough to invent new places for bunking every time, but there were some places which were more of a ‘bunking adda’ to us. Let us go to those good times and read about all these bunking addas of ours.

Rani Road

Source: venuezz

This is the one place that is the first option that always used to pop up in our heads whenever we thought about any bunks. Rani road is such a place that has kept so many secrets in itself and one of the secrets are our bunks. The long pal of Rani Road, the never-ending gossips and the unconditional love that we had for the lake, these three things were the main reason why we are always up for the place. Now that it has developed a lot, you could see a lot of people at any point of time in the day.

Badi Lake

Source: let the words flow out of you

Our city is blessed with Lakes and hence we have a lot of places that roam around Lakes itself. Here, I am not discriminating but I think a lot of boys could connect to this one. Badi Lake has been the most famous place for boys bunking their classes here. Even now you can see a lot of young kids having a leisurely time of their life. Be it after school or when they are on bunks. There is one more point of attraction at Badi Lake that has become very famous with people lately. It is the Badi Hill. I don’t know about bunking but people definitely enjoy the trek to reach the hill. It’s not that the hill has got anything special but the view that it has is breathtaking.

Gulab Bagh

You are a true back bencher if you have bunked at these places in Udaipur
Source: Shoes on loose

The place literally takes me to my school days. Just standing at the huge gate used to excite me. Gulab Bagh is a huge garden where you can just get lost in nature and when we are on a bunk, that’s exactly what we need, isn’t it? The place consists of a lot of activities that you do here. It has a zoo, a toy train that makes you explore the entire place (the garden is that large), a library, a bunch of temples and a shrine, badminton court, swings and slides and vast gardens where you can chat endlessly with your friends.

Fatehsagar

You are a true back bencher if you have bunked at these places in Udaipur
Source: Udaipur insights

The best of bests right? Fatehsagar has a beautiful Lake but that’s not just it. Apart from that, there are quite more places which were the favorite spots of the bunkers. The main pal and the one in front of the Bombay market are the main attraction and apart from that, there is a Swami Vivekananda park, temples, Guru Gobind Park which has become the secret spots for all the youngsters.

Ubeshwar Ji

You are a true back bencher if you have bunked at these places in Udaipur
Source: Venuezz

This is the one place that takes a long ride to go there. A lot of children can be seen on the way of Ubeshwar Ji on their bikes and scooters with a group of their friends. If you see Ubeshwar Ji there is nothing much as a place there. There is just a temple and a short waterfall. But the mere way of the place is adventurous enough. Beautiful landscapes, bright colors and fresh air adds up a light mood in every one of us.

Peepliya Ji

You are a true back bencher if you have bunked at these places in Udaipur
Peepliya Ji

While we are talking about Ubeshwar Ji, there is another place, Peepliya Ji which is just some 8 Km ahead of it. Being a bit uncommon there are not many people there at any time of the day. So it is considered as an ideal place to enjoy some quality time with friends. Apart from that, it has a majestic view of the village near it and in whatever season it will give you one amazing sight to appreciate.

Sajjangarh

You are a true back bencher if you have bunked at these places in Udaipur
Source: Twitter

No matter how many times we go to this place, we cannot ever get bored of going here. This one place has been the weekend plan for the bunkers. Sajjangarh is a complete package of adventure, to sum up your perfect day. It will take a good ride for you to reach the fort meanwhile which you can enjoy the fresh air and increasingly beautiful sight of the city. Once you reach the top of the fort, I bet you feel like there’s no better place than this.

Did everything just flashed in front of your eyes while reading the article? Well, it’s good to be a little nostalgic, no? It is possible that the friends that we made in our school and college will not be in our touch right now but the memories that we made with them, the enormous amount of fun that we had and the promises to stay together until our last breath is unforgettable. If it is possible, contact all those long lost friends of yours and live the best time of your lives once again for you cannot live those moments again but you can always go back to that time right? And well Bunking is not always bad because after all the most important lessons of your lives are the one that you take outside of your class.

Different names of Udaipur and the reasons behind them

It is the most common name of the city. Almost every resident of Udaipur and even many tourists know that Udaipur is called the ‘City of Lakes’. Apparently, Udaipur has been gifted with a lot of lakes and that is the reason why it is known as the City of Lakes. But do you know almost all of these lakes are artificial or man-made?

Also read: The System of Lakes in Udaipur

These lakes were constructed by the kings and rulers of Mewar (Udaipur was a part of Mewar back before the 13th century. The residents used to suffer from the problems like water shortage and poor sewage system. They had to survive only on rainwater. To overcome the problem, the rulers constructed these lakes and at present, they form a great lake system which comprises of seven prominent lakes namely Lake Pichola, Rang Sagar, Swaroop Sagar, Fateh Sagar, Badi, Madar and Udai Sagar. These lakes form a chain in the saucer-shaped Udaipur valley in such a way that the water keeps moving forward and doesn’t drown the city. Great mind back then eh?

Venice of the east

Different names of Udaipur and the reasons behind them

Before I tell you why Udaipur is known as ‘Venice of the east’, we need to slightly move our attention from ‘Venice of the east’ to Venice. Venice is the city of Italy which is considered as the most beautiful city in the world. This entire city is surrounded by water and is known as floating city.

Now, there are several reasons why Udaipur is called ‘Venice of the east’. Firstly Udaipur is so beautiful that in a state of a compliment it is compared to Venice. Another reason is that like Venice, Udaipur is also surrounded by water. Water as in lakes. And due to reasons as such, Udaipur would have been named as ‘Venice of the east’.

Kashmir of Rajasthan

Different names of Udaipur and the reasons behind them

There are many possible reasons why Udaipur is called ‘Kashmir of Rajasthan’. One reason amongst all these is that Kashmir is considered as the most beautiful city in India. So as Kashmir is to India, Udaipur is to Rajasthan. Apart from that Kashmir is known for its landscapes, scenic beauty, lake and ever-green fields. Now, as we are reading this we are able to compare Kashmir from Udaipur. Udaipur also is rich when it comes to beautiful landscapes, breathtaking views and of course lakes. One more reason that associates Kashmir to Udaipur is that both of these cities are situated on valleys that results in their outstanding beauty.

White City

Different names of Udaipur and the reasons behind them

Some of us don’t know that Udaipur is also known as ‘White City’. The name got its existence from back then when the kings and rulers made palaces and forts in Udaipur made up of white marbles. As a result, the city is completely filled with Rajput-style palaces and forts. The center attraction of the white city is the palace situated right in the center of the city which is City palace. Apart from City palace, there are other white palaces as well, such as Jag Mandir, Lake Palace, etc. From that part of the city, if you are able to capture an aerial view, you will observe that most of the houses and other buildings of the city are white. White being the color indicating peace and harmony, Udaipur is appropriately named after it.

The romantic city of the east

Different names of Udaipur and the reasons behind them

There isn’t the need to explain the reason behind this one. Udaipur is one such city that takes away all your worries and fears and no matter where you belong from, Udaipur is a home for everyone. The beauty and landscapes of Udaipur capture every couples’ heart and keep it forever. The palaces and the forts add a touch of royalty to their romance. With such amazing grandeur and breathtaking atmosphere, no wonder Udaipur is called as the ‘Romantic city of the east’. From all over the world people come to celebrate their moments of love in Udaipur. It gives them the essence of their relationship and helps them make the most out of it.

Udaipur is not just a city. It’s a feeling. It’s a feeling with a different meaning for every individual that visits this amazing city. Thus, to justify these feelings, there are different names given to the city.
