Maharana Pratap’s last capital – Chavand

Chavand, Rajasthan is a place that holds a significant position in the lives of every citizen of Mewar. It was the last capital of Mewar in the reign of Maharana Pratap but that’s not just it. Along with being the third and last capital of Mewar in the legendary Maharana Pratap’s reign, it was also the place where he took his last breath.

It is the same place where during one of his hunting expedition, Maharana Pratap took out his bow and pulled its cord with a great strength. As a result, one of his intestines got strained. Pratap tried to struggle with the pain during his treatment in Chavand but it was so much that he couldn’t bear it anymore and at the age of 57, he passed away on January 29, 1597. It is said that when Akbar (his then enemy) heard the news of Pratap’s death, he shed tears of sorrow.

Chavand is a historical place located in Sarada tehsil at a distance of approx. 45 km from Udaipur. The story of Chawand is dated back in the year 1585 CE. Maharana Pratap retired in the hills of Aravali after the battle of Haldighati in order to continue his venture to defeat the ferocious Mughals and strengthen his army. During his time there, he captured the area of Chavand from the Rathores. He then established his new capital in Chavand in 1585 CE.

It is believed that Pratap built somewhere around 16 hideouts to protect and camouflage his army from the enemies in the radius of 10 km in Chavand which included the armory, secret palaces, temples, and buildings for his soldiers and Bhils (who were the part of his army back then).

Chavand in the present

With time, Chavand has grown beautifully and constructed in such a way that it attracts a lot of people from the cities nearby. One reason for that is even after such a long time, the history and the story of the legends who used to live there once upon a time are alive. People at any point in time coming from different parts of the country can feel the walls and sight of the place. There are different elements that capture the eyes of the tourists and remains the center of attraction of the place.

From the several temples Maharana Pratap built during his time in Chavand, one temple was Chamunda Devi temple. The temple still exists in the village in a perfect condition and Chamunda Devi is worshipped as a local deity by the people residing in the village.

Near Chavand, there is a natural Lake named Lake Khejad in the mid of which a beautiful Cenotaph was made by Maharana Bhupal Singh to commemorate the legend of Mewar, Maharana Pratap. It is now under the control of Rajasthan tourism. The site of the Cenotaph provides basic facts and the history of Mewar and its rulers. The board outside the cenotaph displays names of all the rulers who played a substantial role in the battle of Haldighati and accompanied Maharana Pratap in fighting against powerful Mughal forces.

At a distance of 2 km towards Chavand from Lake Khejad, you will reach an ancient Chavand palace on the top of the hill. Although, the palace is now in ruins when it was at its best it was a three storied building. The ruin of the palace overlooks the entire town of Chavand.

Apart from that, there is a memorial of Maharana Pratap in Chavand where a statue of him stands at the top and below are the statues of his associates namely Bhilu Rana, Rana Punja, Hakim Khan Sur, Jala Man and Daanveer Bhamashah. The monument and the entire place is the pilgrimage for all the people from Mewar and the people who admire the great Maharana Pratap. There is a lot to learn from the journey of Pratap. That no matter how great or powerful your enemy is, you should bravely face all the struggles and problems of your life.

Know The Importance of Yoga on This International Yoga Day 2018

It is rather strange that in our country people realize the value of a thing only when foreigners say so despite the fact that our ancestors have proved its worth on the basis of experiments conducted for centuries. The importance is one such example. The idea of observation of yoga day at international level was floated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was accepted in 2015. In record time, it was accepted by 177 members of UNO general assembly. General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon said that yoga can be practiced by everyone at different levels whatever might be their age and capability. There is no question of discrimination. This traditional Indian practice is an easy way for physical, mental and spiritual health.

The international day of Yoga is celebrated every year with the aim of creating awareness about the advantages of the ancient method of Yoga among the public. Yoga experts tell us that yoga is the best and easiest way to keep ourselves physically, mentally and spiritually. In today’s stressful life one can keep himself healthy and fit through the practice of Yoga exercises. Breathing exercises are an integral part of the body but also calms the mind. According to spiritual guru Swami Muktananda, the mind and prana (breathing) are twin brothers. Being two aspects of the same supreme consciousness, they are closely related to each other. What happens to one also happens to other. If one is controlled, the other is automatically controlled. When this happens, one establishes communion with the self and manifestation, compassion, love, and bliss. Some other benefits of Yoga include help in developing a positive attitude towards life and strong willpower and ability to enhance concentration and clarity in thinking.

It is not easy to provide proper healthcare facilities to our huge population due to physical and economic constraints. In our country, 235 persons out of every one lac suffer from heart problems and 25% of deaths in India are caused by heart attack. India is among the top five countries in the world with over six crore patients so far as diabetes is concerned. Every year about ten lac persons become new victims of cancer. Out of this, about six lac die. In the 2018-2019 about 52,800 crores have been set aside for medical facilities. Though serious diseases cannot be cured by Yoga alone it is able to develop immunity against diseases that is so important for our country.

source: financial express

We are told that the teaching of Yoga in Udaipur started way back in the mid nineteen seventies when a group of professors of MLSU, Udaipur formed a club. Some heads of religious organizations from different countries were invited to teach yoga. Several camps of different durations were held. Started in the 1980s was Yoga Sewa Samiti in Ambamata colony.

In Lake City, several Yoga centers are being run by teachers trained by Baba Ramdev. On the other hand, there are other places where they are managed by individuals like advocate Puran Mal Jain and Umesh Shrimal. For example, the one at Bhopalpura ground, near govt. Girls Senior Secondary School. Started in 2014, the center, according to Kamla Jain, is attended regularly by 25-30 ladies and 5-6 men. The number of men might be lesser due to the fact that they get busy right from early mornings. Some near features such as recitation of Gayatri mantra, Mahamrityanjayo mantra and listening to Gitasav before Yoga exercises begin have become an added attraction. And that has helped in boosting the number of participants. The rapid improvement in the condition of some participants suffering from diseases such as Asthama and diabetes has convinced them about the efficacy of Yoga exercises.

Source: lifealth

Yoga has not only become extremely popular among Udaipurites but there are also some among them who have created world records. Gopal Dangi, who comes from Rama village, Kailashpuri near Udaipur holds a world record doing Shirshasan for three hours, thirty-three minutes and thirty-three seconds under the guidance of Yoga experts such as Shobhalal Audichya. He practices different types of Yoga Asanas in the morning but Shirshasan is his favorite exercise. He voluntarily participates in Yoga programs at different places on Sundays where he teaches Yoga to the public including foreigners free of charge. He advises everyone to keep fit through Yoga. He feels that it is strange that foreigners come to India to learn Yoga that is our tradition whereas we ourself do not give it due importance. He believes that yoga is not just physical exercises but a means of creating positive energy. It is universal and should not be linked with any religion or country.

Karni Mata Temple- Legend and History

The beauty of the city which one can devour from the hillock of Karni Mata Temple is one of the many angles from which Udaipur is captured every day. I’d say this one is a better angle. Shri Mansapurna Karni Mata Temple, located on Machla Hills near Din Dayal Upadhyaya Park, is at a perfect height which is accessible through either around 150 m of stairs starting from Din Dayal Park and reaching straight up to the temple or a 4 min. Ropeway route. Surprisingly, the temple has a large well- maintained area covering most part of the hillock. The panoramic view of Lakes, Palaces, whitewashed, closely placed houses, Gulab Bagh and all the area surrounding the hill is addictive. One can actually see the shades of water of Lake Pichola from here.

Udaipurblog

Legend

The main Temple of Karni Mata in Deshnok, also known as “ the Temple of Rats”, is 30 km from Bikaner. Karni Mata was basically a Hindu sage who was born as the seventh daughter of Charan Rajput clan in 1387 AD in Suwap village of Jodhpur district. She was believed to be the incarnation of Goddess Durga. Her original name was Ridhu Bai. She was married to Depoji Charan of Sathika village but after just two years of married life and despite the initial mockery from her husband, she married off her sister Gulab to her husband and left the village forever in order to fulfill her desire to leave all the worldly affairs and live life like a Nomad. After wandering for some time with her followers and herd, she reached Deshnok and finally settled here and also by then she became Karni Mata. The temple is famous for its enormous population of 25,000 rats which are religiously known as “Kabbas”. The story behind the rat population is that once the stepson of Karni Mata, Laxman, fell and died in the Kapil Sarovar in Kolayat Tehsil in attempt to drink water. After continuous pleading from Karni Mata, Yama, The God of Death, agreed to retrieve her son as a Rat and also permitted all her male children to be reincarnated as Rats. The Kabbas are known to be very holy and feeding them with sweets and eating the food nibbled by them is considered as “prestigious”. The temple in Udaipur too has a considerable number of white and black Kabbas. Karni Mata laid the cornerstone of two major Forts of Rajasthan that is Fort of Jodhpur and Fort of Bikaner. On March 21, 1538, while returning Deshnok, the Convoy halted in order to drink water near Kolayat Tehsil. When the followers got back to her she was nowhere to be found and after much search, she was never found hence she just disappeared then and there at the age of 151 years.

Indo Vacations

Overview

The temple in Udaipur was built by Maharana Karan Singh to mark the boundary and safety of Udaipur when the area of Machla Magra was built for residency purposes between 1620-1628. The temple was abandoned for a long time before 1997 when the temple committee restored and renovated the premises and it is still in progress. The temple premises is quite large and peaceful. The stairway path to the temple is a 10 min long journey and it is fulfilled with viewpoints, rest shelters, and water cooler. To the left of the stairway, at a bit distance, lies a high structure with holes in the walls. The structure used to be the place where kings used to hide and hunt and place their guns out through these holes. It can be visited but only at your own risk as it is not maintained and might have snakes and other animals. If you take the stairway, you might also sight peacocks and their symphony is the loudest in the morning. Apart from the temple structure, there are elongated premises up to the ropeway station and one should be extremely careful about the monkeys as they chased me not once but twice. The  4 min. Ropeway journey in bright red, yellow and green cabins start from the banks of Lake Pichola to the Hill of Machla Mangra along the 387 m long cable.

“Shri Mansapurna Karni Mata Temple” is a must visit as it does hold the powers to fulfill wishes and offers more than just peace and tranquility, it offers Udaipur at its best.

Udaipur Villagers Save Dying Fish! | News

18 June 2018 marked a special day in the history of humanity. 50 km away from Udaipur lies a small town called Menar which is famous for bird watching. Recently, the place has observed high degrees of temperatures which are drying out the small ponds and lakes in the village of Menar.

Due to the same, the fish in the area are dying under the scorching sun.

Source: Times of India

“This drying out of ponds shall directly affect the birds here”, says a local. “As the birds feed on fish present in the ponds, and if all the fish die because of drying ponds the birds will also suffer”, he added.

The locals here call themselves “Pakshi Mitra” or Friends of Birds.

The villagers pooled in money to get water tankers to fill up the drying ponds. Watching the efforts of the villagers a lot of people from the nearby area came up to help the dying fish. Up till now, 20 water tankers have been used to fill the ponds.

Also, the forest department has taken measures identifying the fragility of the situation. They shifted some of the struggling fish to a nearby pond named Brahma Sagar, which has a greater level of water. As per the forest department, almost 3 quintals (in weight) of Carp Fish has been relocated.

The College of Fisheries at Maharana Pratap University for Agriculture and Technology helped the forest department in shifting the fish.

The nature lovers of Udaipur have done a very commendable job!

#1 Get yourself Tan Proof!

Men and women traveling to Rajasthan often get a bad tan due to the excessive heat they are subjected to. And not just them even the locals get tanned and trust me it’s not a nice feeling ☹ One must swap their usual body moisturizer with a cooling Aloe-Vera Gel which will help lower the temperature of the skin.

So, these were the tips that you can keep in mind when traveling to Udaipur in summers. Also, you can always read about the best time to visit Udaipur so you never have to compromise with the weather. Monsoons in Udaipur are great for people who love rains, the city is covered with great greenery and the weather is also beauteous. For people who are comfy in winters, the best time to visit Udaipur is winters according to me. The weather is great, the sun is not harsh at all and you can enjoy every bit of the city.
