Taj opens up another property in Udaipur

Yes! The hospitality arm of Tata Group of Companies, the Indian Hotel Company Limited (IHCL) added one more property from Udaipur to its collection of authentic luxury palaces.

The old heritage property from Udaipur, The Fateh Prakash Palace, run by Shri Arvind Singh Mewar’s HRH Group of Hotels is now in a new pair of hands – The Taj Group. IHCL will now manage The Fateh Prakash Palace Udaipur, making it the third hotel in Udaipur managed by Taj hotel.

The talks between both the parties had been on since some time. The groups commenced their valuable relationship long back when Taj Group acquired Lake Palace in the year 1971.  In fact, IHCL recently renewed its lease agreement for Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur for the next 30 years.

Taj Fateh Prakash Palace is situated on the banks of Lake Pichola and is nestled inside the opulent City Palace Complex. CHUNDA PALACE | Everything You Need to Know about The Magnificent Palace in Udaipur

Thakur Ghanshyam Singh Krishnawat pioneered the marble business in Rajasthan under the name Haveli Marbles starting in 1976. Later, in 1996 he started building a dwelling for himself which he turned into a palatial hotel- today widely known as the Chunda Palace. Why the name ‘Chunda’ Palace?

Rawat Chunda was the eldest son and the obvious successor of Maharana Lakha of Mewar. Rawat Chunda, however, handed over the throne of Mewar to his younger brother Maharana Mokal but he continued to serve the house of Mewar. Rawat Chunda’s clan is also the ancestral clan of Thakur Ghanshyam Singh Krishnawat.

20 years hence, the Palace still has its work ongoing- the paintings are still being done on the walls and ceilings. The palace has artwork indigenous to the Mewar region. The artistry on the ceilings is one of a kind and include gold plating with natural colors. Mewar’s Bhitti Chitra Miniature Paintings and glass inlay work can be seen vividly on all the walls and ceilings. The furniture is made of wood, silver, brass and camel bone.

Beautiful chandeliers line the ceiling and a blissful aroma is always filled in the entire Palace.

Wyndham, the World’s Largest Hotel Group to enter Udaipur

For those who are hearing this name for the first time, let me inform you that Wyndham Hotel Group is the world’s largest hotel company with approximately 7,190 hotels and 611,200 rooms in 65 countries. Apparently, there have been rumours of the hotel giant visiting India for exploring new opportunities in the country.

Out of which, there is an agreement with Unique Mercantile India Private Limited, a large real estate development firm in India, and also includes the development of a new 120-room Ramada resort in our Udaipur that is supposed to feature a spa, swimming pool, game room, a poolside bar and international cuisine. The hotel’s first 72 rooms are due to open in April 2012 with 48 additional rooms completed by December 2014.
