Marianne North (1830 – 1890) was a Victorian naturalist and botanical artist, well-known for her plant and landscape painting.
She had travelled in Canada, the USA, Jamaica, Brazil, Japan, Borneo, Java, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, South Africa and in many more countries.
She spent her life in India in 1878. While she was in India, she visited Udaipur, the city of lakes on Aravali in Rajasthan. Her work on Udaipur gives us idea about the life, historical buildings and general environment of the city. The images are uploaded in the British Library site for general viewership.

Udaipur Gigapixel is a project in which you will be able to see the cityscape of Udaipur city in huge resolution. It will be a Gigapixel Interactive Image on internet. With this project Udaipur will on the world map of interactive media and gigapixel imagery. Udaipur Gigapixel project will be an Image which will allow user to explore Udaipur in its finest detail.
In a talk Pranshu Dubey of PixelDo Media, Who is also the photographer of this project told us that It will be the first of it kind image in India. People have done such projects for paris and london but in India it will be the first effort starting from the beautiful City of Lakes – Udaipur.
If we talk about the image in detail then this gigapixel image is made up of 1600 individual images which are shot with a robotic camera head and then stitched together to make one seamless image.
The images for this project have already been shot and post production work is going on. For the shoot the team visited Udaipur many times in different time of the year. And on one sunny day of feb they went to the top of Karni Mata temple, Sky was clear that day and they shot images for this project.
Currently they are working on the aspect of more interactivity, trying to include sound and videos with this image. They are also working on to put this image in form of an exhibition where the image will be projected on a big screen and a visitor can use the hand gestures to zoom in/our and scroll the images.
Udaipur definitely has become the No. 1 destination not only for tourists but also the ‘Royal Wedding‘ lovers. Here is a clip to show just the same. Check out our city’s splendid beauty and majestic charm.
The India Meteorological Department have issued the weather forecast about Udaipur for next 5 days. It says that heavy rain starts from 17th June, 2013 and continues so on.
Aberrantly all of these reports based on studies always contradicts the real situation but lets be hopeful for an Early arrival of Monsoon in Udaipur seeing the daily changes and light preshowers of Rain.
