Rama Barhat is a 17 year old girl from Udaipur who has decided not to continue her school education just after finishing examination of tenth boards yet she has given an identity to our city for her short movie called Jazbaa selected for the Women’s Voices Now film festival based in New York. She learned this clip making through fifteen days workshop over movie making during her summer vacation two years back ,  when she came in contact with  a social organization called Shikshantar just to spent time as after tenth exam students have long period of holidays near about two three months. From the very first day of her learning process about movie making create an interest in her, she felt it like creative kind of stuff. She was completely inspired with her Colleagues at Shikshantar and found that education can never be an essential aspect for any kind of work like degrees can never be put above all. After fifteen days of workshop she was continue to learning movie making tips from her colleagues at same social group along with movie making Rama had learned so many different kind of creative objects too.

Rama Barhat - An Udaipie selected for WOMEN's VOICE NOW fest at New York

Her learning process was still continue throughout the vacation and now it was the time when vacation was about to finish as her result was declare and he passed it. As result came out her parents ask her to choose her optional subject for having admission for eleventh class but she denied for taking admission her parents tried to make her understand that education is most important tool in today’s world but she didn’t agree. She told her parents “That education and degrees has nothing to do with talent. If my presence is not in any particular task then degrees has no value, nobody knows who Rama is”. After this conversation her father didn’t enforce her to join school somehow her father had belief that she will do something better out of it, but her mother still forcing her to join school but Rama was not interested in school going education. Finally Rama’s mother agreed to send her for movie making course but she ask Rama to continue her further education by correspondence. She rate enthusiasm even above educational skill.”

Rama learned so many different types of movie making tricks ,  she has attended two workshops fifteen days in each session held in Udaipur itself then after she has gone to Goa to attend a workshop. Then she came back to Udaipur and thought to create a movie with Udaipur and its people so Rama has chosen Manju Khatri for her movie, who is not an ordinary woman. She’s taken Stepped ahead over a male dominated society the only way she knows – driving an auto rickshaw in Udaipur. The only female rickshaw driver, she has a faithful following of clientele , especially among children going to school. This movie was named as Jazbaa, which is now selected for the Women’s Voices Now film festival based in New York on fourth November 2010. A

Rama has started her first movie with Manju Khatri, a woman who is a lesson for other women that if you have strong desire to fulfil your aim then definitely you will get success. Rama has achieved not only working with movie making, also developed her writing skills as well and publishes a magazine called Rama Panthi.

Being from Udaipur now it’s time to support and praise Rama’s achievement by voting for her so that she can achieve the first prize in New York fest .

Chhath puja

Meaning of Surya Mantra:-Through out the dusky firmament advancing, laying to rest the immortal and the mortal, Borne in his golden chariot he cometh, Savitar, God who looks on every creature.

Festive season is on, so this week is being celebrated by The devotees offer their prayers to the setting sun and then the rising sun in celebrating its glory as the cycle of birth starts with death. It is seen as the most glorious form of Sun worship. for worship of sun through. This is the only holy festival which has no involvement of any pandit (priest)..Chhath puja is an ancient Hindu festival dedicated to Surya, the chief solar deity, major festival of  Bihar, Jharkhand .

This major festival is also celebrated in the northeast region of India, M.P, U.P, and parts of Chhattisgarh. Even in south region the migrants from the north celebrate Chhath puja beside the sea beach. Hymns praying to the sun can be found in the Vedas, the oldest sacred texts of Hinduism

Basically Chhath Puja is A Festival Which is Celebrated in Mainly Bihar. But Now a days Chhath Puja is celebrated in almost all part of the India.

Chhath puja is performed on Kartik Shukala Shashti, which is the sixth day of the month of Kartik in the Hindu Calendar, exactly 6 days after Deepawali. This falls typically in the month of October or November.

It is also celebrated in the summer (March- April), on Chaitra Shashti, some days after Holi; this event is called Chaiti Chhath. The former is more popular because winter is the usual festive season in North India, and Chhath, being an arduous observance, requiring the worshipers to fast without water for more than 24 hours, is tougher to undertake in the Indian winters. Chhath puja is four days festival

First day:-

Is called Nahakha (literally, bathe and eat): On the first day of Chhath Puja, the devotees take a dip, preferably in the holy river Ganga, and carry home the holy water of the river Ganga to prepare the offerings. The house and surroundings are scrupulously cleaned. The follower allows themselves only one meal on this day.

Second day:-

Kharna (the day before Chhath): On Panchami, the day before Chhath, the followers observe a fast for the whole day, which ends in the evening a little after sunset. Just after the worship of earth, the offerings of Rasiao-kheer (rice delicacy), puris (deep-fried puffs of wheat flour) and bananas, are distributed among family and friends. From this day onwards, for the next 36 hours, the follower goes on a fast without water.

Third day:-

Sandhya Arghya(evening offerings): The day is spent preparing the prasad (offerings) at home. On the eve of this day, the entire household accompanies the parvaitins to a riverbank, pond or a common large water body to make the offerings (Arghya) to the setting sun. It is during this phase of Chhath Puja that the devotees offer prayers to the setting sun.

The occasion is almost a carnival. Besides the followers, there are friends and
family, and numerous participants and onlookers, all willing to help and
receive the blessings of the worshiper. Ritual rendition of regional folk
songs, carried on through oral transmission from mothers and mothers-in-law to
daughters and daughters-in-law, are sung on this occasion.

Fourth day:-

Parna(the day after Chhath) Bihaniya Arghya (next morning offerings): On the final day of Chhath Puja, the devotees, along with family and friends, go to the riverbank before sunrise, in order to make the offerings (Arghya) to the rising sun. The festival ends with the breaking of the fast by the followers and friends visiting the houses of the devotees to receive the prashad. Witnessing Chhath being celebrated at the crack of the dawn on a river bank is a beautiful, elating spiritual experience connecting the modern Indian to his ancient cultural roots.

In our city udaipur chhath puja is being done at Dudhtalayi near pichola lake. Most of the devotees during this puja were basically from U.P and Bihar region which has settled in udaipur now, so they have given me information about this puja. As my personal, experience with chhath puja was totally different as last year during this festival i was there in Bihar and that celebration was really awesome what  crazy people they are that was the only devotion i found towards worship the Sun God.

“The higher the sun arise, the less shadow doth he cast; even so the greater is the goodness, the less doth it covet praise; yet cannot avoid its rewards in honors.”

Making Someone’s Diwali a Special Diwali

Divine Heart Society

There is a saying in Hindi:

Sukh Bat-ne se Badh-ta hai aur Dukh Batne se Ghat-ta hai

We all celebrated Diwali with our family and friends and busted crackers and enjoyed a lot but what about those who either don’t have a family or those whose family have left them…

Divine Heart Society took an initiative to make this Diwali a special one for a few of them by spending time with them and distributing among them sweets and fruits.

A few members of DHS went to Asha Dham Ashram,MullaTalai , which serves those aged and mentally unstable people who either have no one to take their care of, or are left by their children. We went there at about 3 pm on the 5th November 2010 and stayed there till about 6 pm. We distributed sweets and fruits among them and also talked to them and tried on our part to make them feel better and needed and tried to make this Diwali their Special Diwali. We at DHS had also gathered some old clothes donated to us by our DHS members, those clothes which were in good condition were also given to them.

Our DHS members who went there were Jujar Ali Bohra(President, DHS), Muslim Sabunwala(Treasury, DHS), Heena Pathik, Anant Jain, Mehul Jain, Mayank Seth, Abhishek Bansal.

We at DHS heartily thank Asha Dham Ashram for giving us a chance to perform such a noble act. We also thank the DHS members who went to Asha Dham Ashram for their timely support and cooperation and for giving their precious time even on the Festive day. We also thank all our members who supported us with their service in cash, clothes and kind.
