Stomping down heavily on Hotel Leela Venture Ltd, market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has barred Leela Venture from selling its 4 high-profile hotels, comprising Hotel Leela Palace Udaipur and other assets to the Canadian investment fund Brookfield Asset Management.

The dramatic move came just after a day when India Tobacco Company (ITC) which holds around 8% of stake in the company, moved the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in contrary to Hotel Leela Venture claiming “oppression and mismanagement”.
ITC also claimed that the deal between Leela Venture Ltd and the Canadian investment fund Brookfield was against the company’s and stockholders’ interests. SEBI has also received representations from ITC on the same matter and had mentioned this in its letter to Leela.
ITC’s plea was cited before the Mumbai bench of the NCLT, which postponed the matter for hearing on the coming Wednesday, Hotel Leela Venture had said in a regulatory filing on Tuesday.
“Representations and allegations against Hotel Leela Venture Ltd, as received by SEBI in relation to the issue, concerns the interest of the investors in the security market. While the representations are still being examined by SEBI, in scarcity of time involved and keeping the interest of investors in mind, they are advised to make sure that none of the transactions planned in the postal ballot notice dated 18 March 2019 are acted upon till further directions from SEBI,” states Hotel Leela Venture in the filing.
With the petition to Company Law Tribunal, ITC also filed two applications seeking a waiver of the requirement of the minimum threshold of 10% shareholding. ITC holds a 7.92% stake in Hotel Leela Venture. Earlier, the board of Hotel Leela Venture, while selling the hotel business, together with all assets and liabilities of the hotels located at Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Udaipur on a slump sale basis, split out Rs.150 crore each to the former promoters – Vivek and Dinesh Nair. Further, the sale to Brookfield also included 100% shareholding of the company in Leela Palaces and Resorts Ltd which owns the property and holds licenses for the development of a hotel in Agra.
All other management contracts currently in operation including the employees have been reassigned to Brookfield. The total payable amount to the company is of Rs.3,950 crore which is subject to adjustments on account of net working capital plus the applicable transaction cost. It is being said that the company will continue to operate the hotel in Mumbai, own a piece of land in Hyderabad and the joint development project of residential apartments in association with Prestige Developers in Bangalore.
Canadian corporation Brookfield still reserves the right of refusal over the company’s hotel in Mumbai, as a part of the business transaction.

The last few days have been amazing, firstly because of the weather and then because of the opening of a much-awaited spot for all the foodies in town. You guessed it right, Khaugali kicked off its operations, last week at Sukhadia circle with something amazing in store for each and every foodie.
Inaugurated on June 21 by the honorable Mayor of Udaipur, Khaugali is a concept brought about by Mr. Akshay Tiwari, which aims at bringing a clean, hygienic, and a better eating environment for every visitor. Khaugali has 15 different shops, all serving different varieties of food. According to Akshay, they have tried not to replicate cuisines at any two shops, resulting in a diversified menu and innumerable things for us to lay our forks on!

Khaugali will remain open from 12-noon to midnight every day. They also have a big space for children to play and are contemplating to start live monthly performances as well.

A must visit place for tourists and the hub of shopping for every Udaipurite, this lively market is swarming with customers from all over the world to buy famous handicraft items, silver jewelry, bandhani print outfits, souvenirs made with brass, marble, etc. You can also find a lot of shops to buy Rajasthani traditional footwear like Mojris, Jootis, and other leather products at very cheap rates.
2. Bada Bazaar
The best traditional gold jewelry, silverware, copperware, and clothing materials can be found here. You just name anything and it’s here. There are a number of shops here selling precious stones, antique items, and so on. You might have to go to a few shops before you find your desired item but it is going to be worth it. Don’t worry about the heat though, there are many street-side shops selling fresh fruit juices, buttermilk (lassi), and other fried items as well. Munch on the go!
3. Sindhi Bazaar
Move a bit farther away from Bada Bazaar and you will enter the Sindhi Market having all sorts of clothes for kids, men, and women on offer. Sindhi Bazaar is thriving during the daytime and way too crowded to explore with a car. Use of a two-wheeler is recommended and with proper bargaining, you can take a dozen shopping bags home.
4. Lakhara Chowk

This shopping market is hugely famous for bangles, artificial jewelry, cosmetic products, and items of personal decor. Lakhara Chowk has a number of shops in narrow lanes of the walled city area and sometimes even the use of a two-wheeler gets cumbersome. Walking through these jolly markets should be the choice. Also, if you want bangles to go with a sari or any other outfit, bring the outfit with you so that the seller can match and suggest accordingly.
5. Mochiwada

The name speaks for itself here! This market is chiefly popular for traditional Rajasthani and leather footwear. This place is never short on varieties to offer. Shopkeepers sell locally produced sports shoes, formal shoes, and so on at very cheap rates. These are often quite durable and made with good quality materials. Also, the bargaining is quite rampant and you can get awesome footwear at very cheap prices.
6. Ashwini Market
Another dynamic market bustling with people all through the day is Ashwini Market. Known for a variety of shops selling attractive home decor items, designer sarees, and electronics, this market is located at a walking distance from Hathipole. The market is also popular for electrical equipment, sanitary, and hardware shops.
7. Bhatiyani Chohatta, Gulab Bagh Road
And as you take a walk down the silent and soothing Gulab Bagh road in the evening, don’t forget to visit the beautiful art galleries, boutiques, and jewelry stores here. These shops are perfect for purchasing souvenirs, Rajasthani miniature paintings, leather journals, bags, etc. Bargaining is quite common here.
8. Bapu Bazaar
Bapu Bazaar is Udaipur in a nutshell! You can find everything you want in this vivacious market. From antiques to electronics, and clothes to books, there’s pretty much everything in this lane. Bapu Bazaar even has some famous street food shops where you can soothe your taste buds while you absorb the surreal sight of life in Udaipur.
9. Maldas Street
This is another age-old market in the walled city area. It has a wide range of shops selling women’s clothing, items of personal decor, and cosmetics. Don’t forget to bargain. The best time to visit this market is during the afternoon.

Udaipur has an unparalleled splendor and remains one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It is a city famous for its bewitching architecture, scrumptious Rajasthani cuisine, and striking monuments that hold rich history behind its walls. Such is the charm of the city that a one-day visit seems incomplete just by the mention of it. There are simply so many places to explore in and around the city and each place is so alluring, it feels as if it just doesn’t want to let go of you.

Most of the tourists visiting Udaipur throughout the year are backpackers and budget travelers who visit the city for merely a day and search for places to go to that can make their traveling videos and photo albums a lot more colorful. Well, Udaipur never disappoints, and for the same purpose, we have come up with a list of places you must visit during a day’s trip (supposedly, morning to evening). Have a look:
1. Fatehsagar Lake:

A trip to Udaipur would be a trip in vain if you do not visit the majestic lakes in the City of Lakes! You must not miss the sight of the rising Sun and the tranquility that is during morning around these lakes. The sound of the chirping birds and water hitting the shore is soothing and with a plate of ‘Poha’ and sizzling hot ‘Chai’ (tea), should you even ask for more? You can spend the morning hours here as well as at Lake Pichola overlooking the City Palace, Jag Mandir, and Lake Palace from Karni Mata as the rest of the city becomes operational mostly after Ten.
2. The City Palace Museum:

And to take a deeper look into the rich history of Mewar kingdom and all of its rulers, a trip to the Palace is a must. After you have had your breakfast, you must move on to the City Palace complex. The City Palace complex is a splendid example of Rajasthani architecture and the cultural heritage of Mewar built by Maharana Udai Singh II. A visit to the museum typically takes 2-3 hours and entry to the museum is chargeable at a fee of ₹300 for adults and ₹100 for children aged 5-18. The museum opens at 0900 hours and closes at 1730 hours. Also, check out Palki Khana Restaurant inside the palace complex.
3. Sajjan Garh (Monsoon Palace):

Painted with white artistic domes on top of a hill is the glorious Monsoon Palace. It is named after Maharana Sajjan Singh Ji who built the palace chiefly to visit during the Monsoon season. It provides a panoramic view of the city and surroundings which a delightful sight. A visit here takes 2-3 hours and entry to this Palace is at a nominal cost of ₹80-90 for each person whereas vehicles are charged too. The preferred timing to visit Sajjangarh is from 1000 hours to 1700 hours. You can also visit the Sajjangarh Biological Park and Zoo located at the foot of the hill.
4. Old City Tour and Shopping:

A visit to Udaipur is incomplete without some shopping from the local markets. Udaipur is famous for wooden handicrafts, traditional jewelry, brassware, pagadis (turban), mojadis (ethnic footwear), leather items, etc. Visit these local markets at Hathipole, Bapu Bazaar, and Palace road and treat yourself with some amazing collection of items from the local nearby villages. Don’t forget to treat your taste buds with some lip-smacking Rajasthani food as well. And don’t worry if you are left with some more time, try visiting Jagdish Temple, Vintage Car Museum, Bagore ki Haveli, Maharana Pratap Smarak (memorial), you will be left in awe!
5. Dinner by the Lake – ending it in style!

As the day closes to an end, there is one thing that will haunt you for the rest of your lives if not done, while in Udaipur, and that is a blissful candle-lit dinner by the lakeside overlooking the City Palace as it lights up in all its glory. There are several lake-facing restaurants by Pichola serving cuisines from all over the world with an ambiance worth every penny that you shell out. 1. Jayesh Misthan Bhandar (JMB)
One of the most famous sweet shops in town located in the heart of the city with a few other branches as well. Kaju Patisa, Sangam Barfi, Kesar Ras Malai, Malai Ghewar, Rabri are some of the delicacies you must try. They even make Pyaaz ki Kachori, Mirchibada, Khandvis, etc. that are quite famous.

2. Shastri Sweets
Another popular sweet shop in town that has a drool-worthy variety of sweets. They are very famous for Dudh ke Laddu, Milk Cakes, and Cashew Sweets.

3. Vasudev Dudh Bhandar
Apparently, this place serves the most delectable sweets made with milk and a variety of other savory items too. Their specialties include Lassi, Rabri, Shrikhand, Motichur ke Laddu, Alwar Paak, etc. They have one more branch in the city as well.
Famous for its Mirchibada, Pyaaz ki Kachori and obviously, a variety of sweet delicacies like Rabri Laddu, Ghewar, Sangam Barfi is Jodhpur Misthan Bhandar. They have two shops in the city, both serving exquisite sweets.

6. Lala Misthan Bhandar (LMB)
