Govind Singh Tank, former chairman of Rajasthan Public Service Commission, got elected as the new mayor of Udaipur city. BJP won 44 seats out of 70 in the civic body election (Nagar Nigam Chunav) held earlier this month.
On the opposition side, Congress had fielded Arun Tank for the post of Udaipur Municipal Corporation Mayor. Although the opposition party was hoping some support from the dissatisfied BJP councillors, its hope went all in vain when all the 44 councillors of BJP voted for the 75-year-old politician.
Congress candidate, Arun Tank, secured 20 votes from its party councillors losing against Govind Tank, who secured 46 votes in total.
After the Municipal Election results were declared this month on 19th November, all the 46 councillors of BJP were shifted to unknown places. They were then directly brought to Udaipur Municipal Corporation office to cast their votes for the mayor.
After the result was declared, Govind Singh Tank, sworn in as the new mayor for Udaipur Municipal Corporation. Mr Tank is retired RPS Chief and Ex-Chief Engineer of Public Works Department.
Toastmasters of Rajasthan successfully conducted their Rajasthan Level Conference Convergence 2019, on 24th Nov 2019.
The event witnessed an audience of 200 people including students, entrepreneurs, professionals, homes makers as well as retired personnel.
The event that was held for the first time in Udaipur to conduct the state-level Humorous Speech and Evaluation Speech Contests was graced by dignitaries of Toastmasters International. The dignitaries included District 41 Director, Jennifer Ghosh, Past District Director, Mukesh Kulothia, Division C (Rajasthan) Director, Siddharth Balasaria, Division N Director, Smita Narayan and Division C Chief Judge, Nitesh Gupta.
Rajasthan Division level Evaluation Speech Contest was conducted by Contest Chair Neha Purohit. Smita Narayan presented the speech as a test speaker for the evaluation contest. The contestants then presented their evaluations (feedbacks ) on this speech.
The audience laughed their hearts out in the Humorous Speech Contest conducted by the Contest chair Raja Agarwal.
Humorous Speech Contest was won by Mandeep Sapra from Jaipur Toastmasters Club, First Runner Up was Senthil Kumar from Jodhpur Toastmasters Club and Second Runner Up was Gaurav Maheshwari from DBOI Toastmasters-Jaipur.
Evaluation Speech Contest was won by Kunal Advani from SKIT Club Jaipur, Akansha Deshwal from VGU Toastmasters Jaipur and Amit Ghildiyal from Sprouts Toastmasters Club.

For generating awareness about a greener and sustainable planet, the little artists from Udaipur used their sketching skills at Forum Colorama 2019. Drawing pictures to highlight what greener planet means to the future, how we can contribute to creating a greener and sustainable planet, children expressed their ideas for how we can improve our present to create a better future.
Forum Colorama 2019 Drawing Competition was conducted by Forum Celebration Mall, Udaipur, on 24th November 2019, for the young learners to express their ideas, creativity and contribute their views to the society.
More than 700 children participated in the activity and showed amazing enthusiasm in expressing their ideas through colours. The winners of the competition were selected on a different age group basis.
1st prize in 4 – 6 years age group was bagged by Hiya Parikh, 2nd prize in the same group was awarded to Kavish Dave and third to Khwaish Sagar.
In 7 – 9 years age group, Ridhyanshi Joshi got the 1st prize, Jiya Parmar for the 2nd prize and Paridhi Rawal got 3rs prize.
In 10 -13 years age group, Harshita Dangi, Pritam Basu and Hakimuddin Kifayat got 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively.
Similarly, in 14 – 16 years age group Gulisha Mandot got 1st prize, Ronak Kavadiya 2nd and Tasneem Siyani got the 3rd prize.
All the winners were awarded gift vouchers worth Rs. 40000/- along with a trophy, while all those who participated in the competition were given participation certificates.
FASTag, an Electronic Toll Collection System in India, operated by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), will be made compulsory from 1st December 2019. Owners of the vehicle without FASTag will have to pay twice the normal rate at the toll booth. All the toll plazas falling under Udaipur division are getting prepared for the new system.
Initially, the authority will keep the Hybrid Lane open for people. Hybrid lane will accept both cash and FASTag payment at the booth. The toll booths around the city are being prepared for the new system. Government is taking all the required action to send the message across to the citizens. Many banks have opened a separate counter for customers to purchase FASTag.
Things you should know about FASTag:
From December 1, if you enter the lane reserved for FASTag without FASTag on your vehicle, you will have to pay double the amount of toll tax.
You can buy FASTag from Amazon, or some selected branches of banks like SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, etc.
There will also be Point-of-Sale counters at National Highway Toll Plazas for people to buy FASTag.
You will need to submit your KYC documents, Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC), and a passport size photographer of the vehicle owner to buy FASTag.
After buying, FASTag has to be activated from MYFASTag mobile app by entering the vehicle’s and vehicle owner’s detail.
FASTag comes at a one-time joining fee of Rs. 100 inclusive of taxes.
You need to maintain a minimum balance of Rs. 100.
You need to maintain a refundable security deposit of Rs. 200 – 400 depending on the type of vehicle.
You can keep the amount in the FASTag wallet or link it with your bank account.
You need to login to FASTag portal to recharge.

The results of the Big Battle for Udaipur are finally out.
BJP has won the Big Battle for Udaipur with 44 seats in its bucket while Congress got 20, Communist Party of India (Marxist) wins 1, Janta Seva 1, and Independent candidates won 4 seats.
The process of counting of votes for 70 wards of Udaipur began on Tuesday morning 8 AM. The Udaipur Nagar Nigam Elections were conducted on Saturday, 16th November 2019. The polling was held at 321 booths to elect 70 ward councillors for Udaipur Municipal Corporation.
The counting of votes began amid tight security. Although Udaipur recorded the lowest voting percentage of 57.77%, there was a huge enthusiasm among both voters, candidates at the polling stations since morning.

On the state-level, out of the total 49 urban civic bodies, the Congress Party has won 23, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) logged victory in 6.

A significant drop in the temperature has been noticed in the city and Udaipurites are feeling the winter effect. There has been a continuous dip in the minimum temperature and Wednesday, a drop of 2.5 degrees was noticed with a minimum temperature recorded at 15.2-degrees Celcius.
This climate change is experienced due to the active northernly winds and upper air cyclonic circulation. With the change in the wind direction, the humidity level has come down and the temperature is falling gradually.
The maximum temperature recorded on Wednesday at Dabok was 30.4 degrees. The city might experience some intermittent rain shower in the coming days. Some fluctuations in the temperature may be expected for around a week from now.
The preparation for Municipal Corporation Elections, which are going to take place on 16th November 2019, is in full swing. Udaipurities are all set to select the government for their city.
To understand this further, a Municipal Corporation or Nagar Nigam is a local government that administers urban areas with a population of more than 100,000. Udaipur city earlier had a City Council, that works for the towns having a population between 25,000 and 100,000. The City Council was converted into Udaipur Municipal Corporation in 2013. The current population of the Udaipur is around 4.5 lakhs. The municipal corporation is ruled by IAS officer/ Mayor.
This local governing body works for providing necessary community services like health care, educational institution, housing, transport etc. by collecting property tax and fixed grant from the Rajasthan State Government.
It is noteworthy that candidates representing various political parties along with independent candidates are going to contest for 70 wards falling under the Corporation. The result of the elections will be announced on 19th November 2019.

Udaipur’s mermaid, Bhakti Sharma, who is the youngest swimmer to swim in all the five oceans of the world, was featured on the TED Talk India Nayi Baat – a popular talk show series hosted by the King Khan of Bollywood – Shahrukh Khan. The show was aired on Starplus on 3rd November 2019.
